On April 30, 2024, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a leading global automotive supplier, and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), the largest electronics manufacturer worldwide, announced the completion of their joint venture in passenger car chassis systems. The partnership was formalized with Foxconn acquiring a 50% stake in ZF Chassis Modules GmbH, leading to a balanced 50-50 ownership structure. This strategic move, first agreed upon on July 24, 2023, and subsequently approved by regulators, marks a significant step in the collaboration between these two industry giants.
The newly established ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules plays a pivotal role in the future strategies of both companies, enhancing ZF Friedrichshafen AG’s potential for profitable growth and expanding its customer base beyond its traditional axle system assembly market. For Foxconn, this venture not only diversifies its involvement in the automotive sector but also reinforces its global stature with an investment valued at approximately €1 billion (about $1.1 billion).

Dr. Holger Klein, Chairman of the Board of Management at ZF Friedrichshafen AG, highlighted the synergistic nature of this partnership, stating, “This joint venture uniquely merges our engineering prowess and agility with Foxconn’s global reach and expertise in customer orientation and process efficiency. It’s a strategic alignment that secures our position in current growth markets while opening doors to new opportunities.”
Echoing this sentiment, Young Liu, Chairman and CEO of Foxconn, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, noting, “Through the ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules, we look forward to enhancing our growth strategies and exploring additional partnerships within the transportation and mobility sectors.”
The joint venture is led by seasoned ZF executives Eike Dorff as CEO and Urs Rienhoff as CFO. Positioned to capitalize on global market opportunities, ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules is committed to maximizing market and partner adaptability through continuous process enhancements. Currently, the venture operates at 25 locations globally, employs about 3,800 staff, with nearly 100 based in Germany, and reported sales of approximately €4.3 billion ($4.7 billion) for 2023.
