The highly anticipated return of the National Rally Championship to the Free State Province has met an unforeseen challenge. Heavy rainfall in the region, classified as a force majeure event, has rendered critical rally stages inaccessible, compelling the organising committee to make the difficult decision to postpone the 2025 Fouriesburg Rally.

Originally scheduled for earlier in the year, the rally will now take place from 26 to 27 September 2025. This decision comes after extensive efforts to complete final preparations were hindered by saturated terrain and safety concerns. Most notably, the inability to compile essential pace notes—vital for ensuring both driver and spectator safety—was a decisive factor in the postponement.

To accommodate the revised calendar, the 2025 Ermelo Rally has been rescheduled to 29–30 August, ensuring that the championship maintains its momentum while prioritising the well-being of all involved.

A Community’s Commitment

In the face of disruption, the rallying spirit remains undeterred—thanks in large part to the unwavering support of the local community. The National Rally Committee extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated farming families of Fouriesburg, whose efforts have been nothing short of heroic. Special recognition goes to Erhard Scheepers, Apla Scheepers, Al Van Eeden, Jan Scheepers, and David Exley, whose tireless work and flexibility in the face of adversity have been instrumental to the event’s planning and future success.

The committee also wishes to thank the Greater Fouriesburg Tourism NPC, whose enthusiasm for hosting this national event continues to drive its local impact. Their team remains committed to showcasing the charm and hospitality of Fouriesburg, a town that has grown into a beloved motorsport destination.

Rallying Together for Safety and Success

Safety remains the top priority, and this ethos is upheld through the continued partnership with Morgan Group Bethlehem, the proud vehicle sponsor for the Safety Caravan. Their contribution significantly enhances rally safety measures, ensuring a secure environment for both competitors and spectators.

Equally vital is the cooperation of the Free State provincial authorities, the Dihlabeng Municipality, and the South African Police Service (SAPS), whose support and coordination form the backbone of this event’s logistical execution.

Looking Ahead

While the postponement is met with understandable disappointment, the organisers are steadfast in their vision to deliver an unforgettable rally experience. The Fouriesburg Rally is not just a sporting event; it is a celebration of community, countryside, and competition.

“We are committed to delivering an exceptional event,” the committee noted. “We look forward to returning this September with thrilling competition and entertainment in the beautiful town of Fouriesburg. We are sincerely grateful for the ongoing support from our partners, the local community, and, especially, the farmers who make this all possible.”

As rally enthusiasts across the country mark their calendars for September, the anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a spectacular chapter in South Africa’s National Rally Championship—one defined not by setbacks, but by resilience, collaboration, and a shared passion for motorsport.
