In a move that underscores the power of collaboration between global industry leaders and local entrepreneurs, Dunlop Tyres South Africa has joined forces with Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) to launch a groundbreaking supplier development initiative. The programme brings world-class tyre expertise directly onto the production line at IMSAf’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha, marking a milestone for localisation and social enterprise development in the Eastern Cape.
At the heart of this initiative is Eastern Cape Tyres, led by Matthew Nondwayi, a long-standing Dunlop franchisee with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Nondwayi has expanded his business to manage IMSAf’s in-house tyre assembly operations, which officially commenced in April 2025. His journey, from operating small tyre outlets in Alice and King William’s Town to overseeing assembly for a global automotive brand, reflects decades of dedication to quality and service.
“This partnership shows the power of multinationals working together with a shared commitment to progress,” said Lubin Ozoux, CEO of Dunlop Tyres South Africa. “We are proud to be part of an initiative that not only empowers local entrepreneurs but also ensures Isuzu Motors South Africa receives the highest quality service and technical expertise.”
For Nondwayi, the collaboration is both a professional milestone and a personal triumph. “Starting out supplying small bakkie tyres and now supporting the assembly line for an automotive giant like IMSAf, right here in the Eastern Cape, shows what is possible when big business supports local enterprise. We are bringing world-class expertise to the Struandale plant and are incredibly proud to call this assembly line the newest addition to the Eastern Cape Tyres family,” he said.
The partnership delivers tangible benefits for IMSAf. By integrating a trusted local tyre expert backed by Dunlop’s technical training, nationwide support, and service excellence, the company enhances its production capabilities while reinforcing its commitment to economic inclusivity and local value chain strengthening. Komane Pitso, Executive Vice President for Procurement and Logistics at IMSAf, emphasised the wider impact: “Partnering with Dunlop Tyres South Africa and Mr Nondwayi represents a significant step forward. Together, we are committed to advancing opportunity and economic inclusion across the sector.”
This collaboration demonstrates the potential of strategic partnerships to create shared value—empowering local businesses, advancing technical expertise, and supporting multinational supply chains. For the Eastern Cape, it is a vivid example of how dedication, skill, and collaboration can drive both business growth and community upliftment.
