Madrid’s Royal Enfield and Davida dealership Motos Mazarias witnessed the latest Davida Moto Photo exhibition last Thursday, 20th October and saw a tremendous turn out from Madrid’s vibrant bike scene, perhaps the best yet. The surrounding streets were packed with some of Madrid’s finest rides, plenty of Harleys and Enfields, chopped and not, café-racers and exotica, Radical Ducati turned up on a nice original Pantah. The event ended up occupying pretty much the whole street. The crowd was eclectic, young and old, bloggers, moto dealers, journalists, a girl who races sidecars who calls herself ‘tits on the tarmac’, all sharing a passion for motorbikes.

Submitted by local riders, Moto Photo Madrid featured a diverse range of new images, including a self portrait of Alberto Garcia Alix, looking adventurous in his Davida Speedster, as one of the creators of ‘Movida’ he’s known as ‘The Wild One’, also of David Boras of El Solitario MC stylishly shot by another celebrated photographer Luis de las Alas. Elsewhere there were some touching and evocative photos, a couple honeymooning on a Vespa in Mallorca in 1958, another showed Alfredo Calles, Aldolfo’s Uncle with his Indian Chief in the Franco era, how did he manage that? Usually if you wanted to know the background to a Madrid submission you could ask around and someone would have the answers and more than likely a good story.

The dealership had been transformed into a gallery in a very short space of time thanks to the enthusiasm of Rubi and Emilio who run the shop. Every event has a few people without which it simply wouldn’t have happened. In this case it was Antonio Merinero, the Madrid artist, whose contribution cannot be overstated. The finest of Madrid’s motorcycle media supported the event including, Angel de la Maza, a journalist with our main sponsor Moto Ciclismo Clásico magazine and Victor Osorio of Chopper On magazine

The after-show was a lively affair which, this being Madrid, went on till morning, ‘Movida’ style, many thanks to Federico of Café Racer Obsession. Coming from Autumnal Liverpool, Madrid and its people were wonderfully warm, thanks to all involved. So, until next time…
