Milton Keynes, 27 January 2026 – CUPRA is taking a bold step toward safer roads across Europe by leveraging its all-electric vehicle line-up in a Volkswagen Group-wide initiative designed to optimise driver assistance systems. Through innovative use of real-world traffic and vehicle data, the brand aims to enhance automated driving functions, improve road safety, and deliver seamless benefits directly to its customers.
Building on Volkswagen Group’s previous successes in Germany, CUPRA’s Tavascan, Born, and soon-to-arrive Raval are contributing to a pan-European effort that collects anonymised sensor, image, and traffic data from around 40 countries. By analysing real driving situations rather than relying solely on simulations or test environments, engineers can refine driver assistance systems for scenarios where safety matters most – from busy intersections near schools to complex supermarket parking lots.
“Active assistance systems don’t just protect the driver – they protect every road user,” said CUPRA. Vehicles in the programme generate high-resolution maps and use swarm data to maintain lane guidance, issue hazard alerts, and deliver driving recommendations adapted to local weather conditions. This ‘wisdom of the crowd’ approach ensures continuous improvement in safety for all road users.
Data collection is precise and purposeful. Transmission is triggered only during critical events such as emergency braking, sudden evasive manoeuvres, or manual full braking. Key inputs include camera images, environmental sensor readings, vehicle speed, steering angle, and local conditions such as visibility and weather. This enables vehicles to proactively anticipate risks, such as children moving toward a street, and respond with faster, more effective braking.
CUPRA is fully committed to privacy. All data is anonymised, and individual identification of road users is never relevant. Customer consent, managed via the My CUPRA App, is a fundamental prerequisite for participation and can be revoked at any time. Detailed information on data usage and privacy safeguards is available on CUPRA’s market websites and in the Privacy Policy for the Development of ADAS.
By integrating its advanced driver assistance systems with Volkswagen Group’s fleet-wide initiative, CUPRA is not only enhancing the safety and comfort of its customers but contributing to safer roads across Europe. Software updates ensure that every vehicle continues to evolve, offering smarter, more capable assistance with every journey.
CUPRA’s commitment demonstrates that safety, innovation, and sustainability can go hand in hand – proving that the future of mobility is not only electric but also intelligent and safer for everyone.
