Volkswagen Lavida

Shanghai Volkswagen is presenting the New Lavida in a world premiere at Auto China 2012 in Beijing (23 April to 2 May). Launched in June 2008, the Lavida has quickly taken charge in the A-class car market. Cumulative sales volume of the Lavida topped 700,000 units in January 2012. After four years, the New Lavida is making its appearance as a new member of the Lavida family. Similar to the New Passat, its completely restyled body reflects the current Volkswagen ‘design DNA’. The face of the New Lavida has clean styling, and its body lines are sharp. Its overall styling fully embodies powerful, contemporary and sporty design principles.

FAW Volkswagen is showing is showing the CC V6 with a 184 kW / 250 PS six-cylinder engine in a world premiere. In addition, Volkswagen is showing two pioneering concept cars – the Cross Coupé (SUV with TDI plug-in hybrid) and E-Bugster (speedster with electric drive), the Tiguan R-Line (SUV with sporty, customised exterior and interior), the Scirocco R (188 kW / 255 PS top version of the coupé model series) and the Phaeton Exclusive Concept (with leather interior of the Italian ‘Poltrona Frau’ label).

The New Lavida

The Lavida is offered in three engine versions and four equipment lines. The base version already comes equipped with such standard safety features as ABS, ESP and front airbags. The Lavida is systematically designed to meet the needs of Chinese consumers, and it brings together the most advanced technologies, a timeless design, a good amount of space and the high manufacturing quality and excellent price-to-performance ratio that people have come to know from Volkswagen.

The New Lavida, like the previous model, is designed to extend its position at the top of the highest volume segment of the Chinese market – the hard-fought A-segment – and to further solidify Volkswagen’s successful position there. In the future, our corporate strategy will continue, systematically, to bring German know-how, styling and engineering into harmony with Chinese culture and the preferences of car buyers in China in cooperation with local partners.

CC 3.0 V6

FAW Volkswagen is now extending the range of the sporty CC with a V6 version. Conceptually, this Volkswagen makes its mark outside of the mainstream in a new and refreshing way. The positioning of the CC 3.0 V6 as a sports model at the top of the series is underscored by its 184 kW / 250 PS (at 6,300 rpm) six-cylinder engine; the same is true of its maximum torque of 310 Nm (at 3,300 rpm). The CC 3.0 V6 accelerates to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds and is electronically limited to its top speed of 250 km/h. This contrasts with a moderate rate of fuel consumption of 9.4 l/100 km. The CC V6 is combined with an automatic 6-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) as standard.

Cross Coupé

The aim of research – regardless of the area of research – is always to identify solutions that point the way to the future. In December 2011, it was the Cross Coupé – a research vehicle from Volkswagen – which, with a fuel consumption value of just 2.7 l/100 km (equivalent to 62 g/km CO2), proved that an SUV could be extremely fuel-efficient despite its high performance and all-wheel drive system. This plug-in hybrid concept was driven by two electric motors and a turbocharged petrol direct injection engine (TSI). However, research also means exploring the limits of what is feasible. And this is exactly what Volkswagen has done once more. The result: an even more fuel-efficient Cross Coupé, which attains a sensationally low combined fuel consumption of 1.8 l/100 km in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) utilising a turbodiesel direct injection engine (TDI) and two electric motors. This is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 46 g/km. Noteworthy here is the fact that the Cross Coupé is a powerful SUV with a top speed of 220 km/h, 225 kW / 306 PS of power (system power) and a kerb weight of 1,858 kg.

E-Bugster

The Volkswagen E-Bugster is a two-seat Beetle speedster with an 85 kW electric drive (Blue-e-Motion). The model name of concept car is a play on the words ‘Bug’ (the American nickname for the ‘Beetle’) and the second syllable of ‘speedster’. At the same time, it is a tribute to the Ragster that was presented in Detroit in 2005: a New Beetle as a speedster with a flat soft-top (folding roof).

The E-Bugster has an electric heart that beats towards the future; it weighs just 80 kg. The energy for driving the electric motor is stored in lithium-ion batteries housed in a space-saving location behind the front seats. Their energy capacity of 28.3 kWh enables a range of at least 180 km in the city. Thanks to a quick-charge function, the battery modules of the E-Bugster can be ‘refuelled’ within 35 minutes at charging stations designed for this purpose. The zero emissions drive system accelerates the Beetle from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.8 seconds.

Tiguan R-Line

Volkswagen R GmbH is now upgrading the bestselling Tiguan SUV for its Chinese customers. R-line packs were conceptualised for the exterior and interior based on the dynamic ‘Track & Style’ equipment version; they may be ordered in combination with the 125 kW / 170 PS TSI engine. Especially prominent features are the R-Design bumpers and dynamic 19-inch alloy wheels. A 19-inch dynamic suspension boosts sporty performance. In the compact SUV’s interior, R-line details include ‘Vienna’ leather for the seats and a multifunction steering wheel with aluminium accents and an R-line badge.

Scirocco R

In its version for the Chinese market, the Scirocco R, conceptualised by Volkswagen R GmbH, outputs 188 kW / 255 PS and develops a maximum torque of 330 Nm. These key parameters let the Volkswagen sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. However, its gains in dynamic performance (and convenience) are not at the cost of increased fuel consumption. In fact, the opposite is the case, as shown by a combined fuel consumption of 8.1 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 189 g/km.

The XDS transverse differential lock, first introduced in the Golf GTI, is a standard component of the Scirocco R technology pack, as is a six-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). 18-inch alloy wheels (‘Talladega’ type) and 235/40 tyres are also delivered on the Scirocco R at no extra charge.

Bi-xenon headlights with static cornering lights perfectly illuminate the street; in daylight hours, LED daytime running lights enhance safety. Dominating the rear are a roof-edge spoiler and a black glossy diffuser. These two components decrease lift at the rear axle. Harmoniously integrated into the overall design are the chrome oval tailpipes of the double-flow exhaust system.

Phaeton Exclusive Concept

Poltrona Frau, a renowned company that has been in business for exactly 100 years, is one of the world’s top sources for fine leather craftsmanship. Poltrona Frau is actually a furniture manufacturer. However, the brand’s leathers are not just limited to exclusive furniture items; they can also be found in automobiles, aeroplanes and yachts. As a tribute to the centennial of the Italian company, Volkswagen has now upgraded its flagship with leather from the Poltrona Frau company: the Phaeton Exclusive Concept. The full leather interior (‘Agata’ type) implemented in this concept car is one of the most luxurious that has ever been fitted in an automobile.
