Revolutionary dual-motor hybrid system developed for Geely’s Leishen brand sets new benchmarks in torque, thermal efficiency, and packaging
8 May 2025 – Aurobay Technologies, a division of Horse Powertrain, has been named a winner of the prestigious 2025 Automotive News PACE Award for its pioneering Hybrid Powertrain Technology. Developed for Leishen, a sub-brand within the Geely Auto Group, the system has redefined expectations for hybrid propulsion by combining exceptional efficiency with cutting-edge engineering in a compact, commercially viable package.
At the heart of Aurobay’s innovation is the integration of the company’s multi-gear dual electric motor 3DHT100 transmission with the highly efficient 1.5-litre turbocharged BHE15 engine. Together, these components form the first full hybrid system in the automotive industry to deploy a serial-parallel dual-electric motor configuration, enabled by an advanced embedded planetary gearset architecture.
The result is a platform that offers outstanding torque density, superior fuel efficiency, and flexibility across A-D segment vehicles, all while maintaining a compact footprint. The 3DHT100, in particular, has been praised for its ability to deliver high torque performance without compromising drivability or system size — a key factor in its success with PACE Award judges.
Complementing the advanced transmission, the BHE15 engine boasts industry-leading thermal efficiency, making it one of the most sophisticated hybrid combustion engines in mass production today. Engineered around the Miller cycle, the BHE15 increases kinetic energy by 44% and boosts combustion speed by 20%, significantly enhancing overall powertrain responsiveness and fuel economy.
Speaking on the accolade, Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain, commented:
“As a problem solver to the OEMs, Horse Powertrain is always committed to delivering the very best innovation in combustion and hybrid technologies. This technology, coming from our Aurobay Technologies division, headquartered in China, is the result of many years of hard work, enabling us to deliver a hybrid engine that sets new benchmarks for power and efficiency. While many have given up on continuing to innovate in the area of ICE and Hybrid technologies, this remains a real focus for us at Horse Powertrain. We are very honored to receive this award and the recognition of our technology leadership.”
Now in its 30th year, the Automotive News PACE Awards are recognised globally as the industry’s most authoritative honour for suppliers driving engineering and product excellence. Entries are judged based on their real-world impact, production readiness, and level of innovation.
The judging panel noted the Aurobay system’s synergistic balance of power, efficiency, and compact design as key reasons for its selection, emphasising the significance of its high thermal efficiency and versatility across platforms already in production.
Ruiping Wang, CEO of Aurobay Technologies, added:
“We are honored by the recognition of our Hybrid Powertrain Technology with an Automotive News PACE Award. Our team is pushing at the boundaries of the possible, and this integrated hybrid system developed for Leishen is a perfect example of our philosophy of developing world-class products for a global audience. We’re excited to see the technology adopted on other vehicle platforms and deliver the benefits of these innovations to OEMs and drivers worldwide.”
As global automakers navigate the complex transition toward electrification, Aurobay Technologies’ award-winning solution demonstrates that hybrid powertrains remain a crucial and evolving pillar in the race toward sustainable mobility — especially when innovation meets real-world application.
