Misano – The Maserati GT2, car number 1 from the LP Racing team, driven by Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini, clinched its second overall victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli. The second round, held at the Misano World Circuit, saw the Italian duo not only win the first 50-minute race but also secure a runner-up position in Race 2, propelling them to the top of both the overall and ProAm standings in the championship.

In Race 1, Philippe Prette ascended to the third step of the podium in the LP Racing team’s number 2 Maserati GT2, securing the AM Cup victory. The second race saw Alexandre Leroy from TFT Racing cross the finish line first in the AM Cup class, having finished third in the initial race, thus taking the lead in the category standings and underscoring the impressive performance of the Modena cars.

Starting from pole position overall in Race 1, Philippe Prette took an early lead, fending off his immediate challengers. Leonardo Gorini, starting from the second row, maintained third place until the pit stop, where he handed over to Carlo Tamburini. Opting for an early pit stop proved advantageous for the LP Racing team as Tamburini rejoined the race in the lead and held onto this position until the chequered flag. After a prolonged duel, Prette secured third place on the podium, winning the AM Cup. Alexandre Leroy finished sixth overall, placing third in the AM Cup.

In Race 2, Carlo Tamburini started from pole position and led the race until the mandatory driver change, which was extended due to regulations for Race 1 winners. Rejoining the race in fifth, Leonardo Gorini executed a thrilling comeback, finishing as the runner-up. Alexandre Leroy took fifth place overall, leading the AM Cup class after a fierce battle for fourth place in the final sprint. Philippe Prette faced misfortune, being forced to withdraw early due to a collision caused by another competitor. Following these results, Gorini and Tamburini now lead the overall standings of the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli and the ProAm category, with Leroy heading the AM Cup ahead of Prette.

The next round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli is set to take place in Spa, Belgium, from May 27 to 29.

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, remarked, “Another incredibly successful weekend for Maserati GT2 highlights our car’s exceptional performance. Maserati’s commitment to motorsport aims to engage our customers by providing products designed and manufactured without compromise. Alongside the Maserati GT2, developed from the MC20, our Maserati MCXtrema stands out as a non-road-legal racing car dedicated to gentleman drivers, epitomizing the pinnacle of Maserati track cars.

The victories and podium finishes at Misano demonstrate our capability to develop superior technology and exceptional performance, marking our presence on both the track and the road. We eagerly anticipate continuing our success in the upcoming rounds of the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli as more teams join the grid with our car.”
