The award-winning INEOS Grenadier demonstrated its unparalleled versatility and adaptability at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with the public debut of several exciting prototypes. Among the showcased models were:
- Portal-axled Grenadier Quartermaster and Station Wagon: Modified by LeTech to enhance ground clearance and wading depth.
- Short-bed Quartermaster Pick-Up (‘Shortermaster’): Developed by INEOS engineers, showcasing a more compact yet capable design.
- V8-Powered Station Wagon: Built by engineering apprentices at Magna, featuring a powerful GM 6.2-litre V8 engine.
- Eight-seater Safari Conversion: Created by INEOS Kavango from Botswana, designed to elevate game-viewing experiences.
- FIA-Compliant Rally Ready Grenadier: Presented by Buzz Special Vehicles, ready to compete in high-speed off-road motorsport.
Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, remarked, “The Grenadier’s body-on-frame chassis has already proven itself to be incredibly versatile, so as we look to future products and limited editions, we want to keep innovating. As our new brand campaign states, the Grenadier is Built For More, and over the next few years we will be showing just what that means.”
London, 11th July 2024 – EMBARGO 11th July, 11:00 AM BST – At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, INEOS Automotive unveiled potential future variants of the Grenadier, emphasizing the versatility of this robust body-on-frame 4X4. The lineup included a bold portal-axled Grenadier Quartermaster and Station Wagon, a short-bed Quartermaster Pick-Up, a V8-powered Station Wagon, an eight-seater Safari conversion, and the first FIA-approved rally-modified Grenadier.
Taking off-road capabilities to new heights, renowned German vehicle modifiers LeTech GmbH & Co KG, a retail partner of INEOS Automotive, introduced a raised chassis fitted with portal axles and offset wheel hubs. These modifications increase ground clearance by 250mm to 514mm and wading depth from 800mm to 1050mm, complemented by larger off-road tires. These portal axle Grenadiers already have practical applications, with similarly modified vehicles recently delivered to the fire brigade in Mühlheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

The “Shortermaster” was created by INEOS engineers at the Hambach production plant in France. Based on a standard Grenadier Station Wagon, this double-cab pick-up features a wheelbase measuring 2922mm / 115 inches, which is 305mm / 12 inches shorter than the Quartermaster. The rear seats have been pushed forward to maximize the capacity of the load bay, which is fully integrated into the chassis.
The Grenadier V8 Prototype, a unique project by Magna’s engineering apprentices, provided hands-on experience with the Grenadier. This project involved a complete powertrain exchange, replacing the BMW 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine with a GM 6.2-litre V8 petrol unit that delivers 317kW and 625Nm. The swap required comprehensive re-engineering, including new engine mounts, engine electrics and electronics, water and oil cooling, exhaust manifold and rear silencer, transmission bearings, heat shields, and a revised center console.
The eight-seat Safari game-viewer is a converted Quartermaster Pick-Up by Botswana-based INEOS Kavango, specializing in modifications for conservation, safari, anti-poaching, veterinary, primary healthcare, and film production sectors. This vehicle features three-tiered rows of seats for excellent visibility, bespoke front and side protection bars for enhanced off-road protection, and bespoke alloy wheels fitted with off-road tires to tackle the most challenging safari terrains.
Buzz Special Vehicles showcased the first FIA-compliant Grenadier, demonstrating the model’s compatibility with high-speed, off-road motorsport. Extensively modified to compete in the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship, the Buzz-prepped Grenadier features an uprated version of the BMW 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, delivering 260kW and 550Nm, a sports exhaust system, race suspension from Warwick-based R53, uprated brakes, and bespoke alloy wheels. The cabin includes a full internal roll-cage, racing bucket seats, and carbon interior door panels and roof vents, completing the racing modifications.
