At H&H Classics’ inaugural motorcycle and scooter auction of 2024, a stunning 88% of the classic and collectible two-wheelers were sold on March 27th, amassing over £800,000 in total sales. The event was hosted at the prestigious National Motorcycle Museum and featured a wide array of vehicles from different eras, from a 1914 Juno to a 2010 Aprilia RSV4R.

The standout sale of the day was a 1951 Vincent Rapide Series C, which after spending 12 years in an Isle of Man collection and accumulating only 600 miles, fetched an impressive £31,050—more than double its expected price. This bike’s fascinating provenance was a key factor in its high sale price.

Mike Davis, the head of department at H&H Classics, expressed his satisfaction with the auction, noting the vibrant atmosphere and spirited bidding that led to exceptional results for the sellers. “Compiling such an impressive catalogue of scooters and motorcycles and then achieving an 88% sales rate at our first event of the year is a great triumph,” he stated.

The auction commenced with scooters, including a 1948 Lambretta Model A that went for £8,400 and a 1967 SX200 that found a new owner for £12,075. Notably, a 1968 Rimini Lambretta Ancillotti Special Racer, autographed by the Ancillotti brothers, was purchased for £15,525. A 1976 Vespa Rally 200 also performed well, selling for £11,500.

Among the motorcycles, a 1917 Sunbeam 8hp V-twin, recently discovered in a coal bunker and sold in its found condition, sparked an international bidding war, eventually selling for £10,580. Other notable sales included a 1933 Excelsior racer which brought in £13,800, and a 1934 Rudge 500 Special, unearthed from a barn after 60 years and meticulously restored, which sold for £7,820.

Later models also saw robust sales, such as a 1976 Kawasaki Z900A4 that went for £9,430 and a 1979 Honda CBX 1000, after 40 years with one owner, which fetched £10,350.

Davis thanked all participants and congratulated the successful bidders who added to their collections. He also announced the next motorcycle and scooter auction scheduled for July 3 at the National Motorcycle Museum, alongside the upcoming classic car auction on April 24 at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.
