One year after unveiling their ambitious project, collector car dealer La Squadra and legendary Italian coachbuilder Atelier Zagato are bringing the AGTZ Twin Tail to life. The first production example of this remarkable creation is set to make its world debut at the prestigious Rétromobile exhibition in Paris, an event that has long been a mecca for classic and collector car aficionados.
A Tribute to Racing Heritage
Inspired by the iconic Alpine A220 of the late 1960s, the AGTZ Twin Tail is more than a reimagining—it is a tangible celebration of racing history. The A220 was originally designed for endurance racing, featuring an elongated tail for enhanced aerodynamics at high speeds. However, in a daring move, its designers later opted for a more compact, agile configuration better suited to hill climb competitions. This radical shift cemented the car’s legacy, and it is precisely this transformative aspect that La Squadra and Atelier Zagato have embodied in the AGTZ Twin Tail.
The defining feature of the AGTZ Twin Tail is its removable rear body section, allowing the driver to switch effortlessly between a Long Tail and Short Tail setup. More than just a performance choice, the detached rear section transforms into a piece of functional automotive art, a sculptural statement that can be displayed in the owner’s collection.

Handcrafted Exclusivity: Only 19 Units Worldwide
Built upon the underpinnings of the modern Alpine A110, the AGTZ Twin Tail merges contemporary engineering with timeless craftsmanship. Each of the 19 examples is meticulously hand-built at Atelier Zagato’s historic Milanese workshop, continuing a coachbuilding tradition that dates back to 1919. The result is a truly bespoke vehicle, with each commission reflecting its owner’s vision and passion for automotive history.
Commission #3: Writing a New Chapter in Motorsport Lore
Among the 19 AGTZ Twin Tail commissions, the first production car, Commission #3, is a masterclass in personalization. The client behind this exceptional machine has drawn inspiration from Alpine A220 chassis #1736, one of the last evolutions of the model built in 1969. This historical reference point influences every aspect of Commission #3, from its aerodynamically honed nose to the striking Le Mans-inspired livery that graces its bodywork.
Chassis #1736 had a brief but compelling history, displaying strong potential during the Le Mans test sessions before being forced into early retirement due to technical setbacks. Now, over half a century later, its legacy is reborn in the AGTZ Twin Tail, with bespoke wheels and a host of carefully curated details paying homage to the original racer.
Debuting on French soil at the Rétromobile exhibition, Commission #3 bridges past and present, honoring the golden age of endurance racing while embracing the modern craftsmanship and design excellence of Atelier Zagato.
