Subaru Southern Africa has joined forces with VOX Weather, one of the country’s fastest-growing and most trusted online forecasting platforms, in a collaboration that blends precision meteorology with purpose-built engineering. The partnership is rooted in a shared philosophy: delivering confidence when conditions are anything but predictable.
At the core of Subaru’s offering is its long-standing commitment to Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a system that comes standard across the local range. Developed over decades, it ensures a balanced distribution of power, translating into consistent grip and stability whether the road is slick with rain, loose with gravel, or softened by sand and mud. It’s a mechanical reassurance that aligns naturally with the ever-changing narratives of South Africa’s weather.
VOX Weather, led by meteorologists Annette Botha and Michelle du Plessis, will take that capability into the field behind the wheel of the Crosstrek 2.0iS-ES CVT. As the flagship of the Crosstrek line-up, the model brings 220 mm of ground clearance and Subaru’s all-wheel drive system into environments where forecasts are not just studied but experienced firsthand. From remote broadcasts to tracking extreme weather patterns, the vehicle becomes both transport and tool, extending the reach of real-time reporting.
The partnership also unfolds across digital platforms and radio, where Subaru Southern Africa aims to demonstrate how a vehicle engineered for all conditions can ease the daily demands of commuting while opening the door to more adventurous travel. According to Nteo Nkoli, National Marketing Manager at Subaru Southern Africa, the collaboration reinforces the brand’s focus on delivering peace of mind regardless of where the road or forecast leads.
Adding a visual signature to the initiative, the Crosstrek will appear in a new Sand Dune Pearl finish as part of VOX Weather’s “Beyond the Forecast” series. Set to roll out on YouTube in four episodes this year, the series will traverse a range of South African climates and terrains, placing the vehicle in authentic, often demanding scenarios that highlight its versatility.
For Botha and du Plessis, the partnership is as practical as it is symbolic. Their work requires navigating uncertain conditions daily, and the Crosstrek’s capability allows them to pursue stories wherever they develop, bringing audiences closer to the realities behind the forecast.
Under the bonnet, the Crosstrek 2.0iS-ES CVT is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine producing 115 kW and 196 N·m of torque. Paired with Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT, the drivetrain delivers smooth, uninterrupted power to all four wheels. Efficiency remains part of the equation, with fuel consumption rated at 7.2 L/100 km and a potential driving range of up to 875 km on a single tank.
In a country where the weather can pivot without warning, this partnership feels less like a marketing exercise and more like a natural alignment. It brings together two disciplines that thrive on unpredictability and answers them with preparation, capability, and a quiet kind of confidence that doesn’t need perfect skies to perform.
