Mission Motorsport, the Force’s Motorsport Charity, recently joined forces with Subaru UK & Ireland to make lifelong motorsport dreams a reality for charity beneficiaries. At the heart of this collaboration was the charity’s uniquely adapted Subaru BRZ, enabling wheelchair users and drivers with lower limb disabilities to take full control of a race car via hand controls. The culmination of this project came in July 2025, as beneficiaries experienced the legendary Nürburgring in Germany’s Eifel Mountains, one of the world’s most challenging circuits.
The “Destination Nürburgring” experience is a highlight of Mission Motorsport’s calendar, offering participants the chance to navigate the 12.94-mile (20.8 km) Nordschleife, with its nearly 1,000 feet of elevation change and more than 70 named corners, including the famous Hatzenbach, Adenauer Forst, and Karussell. For those driving the adapted BRZ, the experience was not just thrilling—it was transformative.
The journey to the Nürburgring was not without challenges. After an incident at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, Subaru UK & Ireland played a critical role in rebuilding and preparing the BRZ within a tight schedule, ensuring it was ready for the demanding track.

Brian Wheeler, PR Manager at Subaru UK & Ireland, reflected on the project: “Working with Mission Motorsport on this project has been both a personal and professional privilege. From the outset, it was clear the adapted BRZ would make a meaningful difference to the charity’s beneficiaries. Seeing the car perform flawlessly on the Nürburgring and witnessing the joy on the drivers’ faces was incredibly rewarding.”
Steve Binns, a Mission Motorsport beneficiary, shared his experience: “Two years ago, I could only ride as a passenger at Destination Nürburgring. Thanks to the fully adapted Subaru BRZ, I was able to drive laps myself using hand controls. It’s a life-affirming experience I’ll never forget—one that I thought would never be possible.”
Subaru UK & Ireland further supported the project by providing vehicles to transport beneficiaries, crew, and equipment, while Isuzu UK contributed two D-Max pick-ups to tow the race cars, ensuring smooth logistics throughout the trip.
James Cameron, CEO of Mission Motorsport, praised the collaboration: “The incredible support from Subaru UK & Ireland and other contributors has been vital to the success of this project. Motorsport is about teamwork as much as it is about drivers, and this project exemplifies the power of collective effort to achieve something truly inspiring.”
