Rolls-Royce has unveiled four extraordinary Cullinan motor cars that pay homage to the elegance, craft, and spirit of contemporary yachting. Each commission is anchored by one of the cardinal points – North, South, East, or West – a subtle guiding theme expressed through the motor car’s materials, finishes, and intricate details. This collection is a celebration of Rolls-Royce’s enduring connection to maritime craft, a legacy that stretches from Charles Rolls’ own family yacht, the Santa Maria, to modern collaborations with leading yacht designers for discerning clients.
Every Cullinan Yachting commission features hand-painted fascia and picnic tables that capture the dynamic wake of a tender at speed. The direction of the painted waves reflects the car’s compass orientation, ensuring each vehicle is truly one-of-a-kind. Achieving this lifelike effect required months of experimentation with pigments, airbrushing techniques, and meticulous hand shaping to create movement that feels fluid and natural. Complementing these bespoke artworks, the fascia is finished in Piano Milori Sparkle, a deep metallic blue reminiscent of the crystalline waters of the Côte d’Azur.
Marine-grade teak is woven throughout the interior, gracing the rear Waterfall, centre console, and door panels. Echoing the craftsmanship of a yacht deck, the interior warmth and tactile authenticity are heightened by a hand-assembled marquetry compass motif composed of more than 40 individually cut veneers. Arctic White and Navy Blue leather envelopes the cabin, punctuated by intricate rope-pattern stitching on the seats, hand-crafted by an artisan with a connection to the Royal Navy. Rope motifs continue across illuminated treadplates, connecting every touchpoint to nautical tradition.
A unique Starlight Headliner crowns each cabin, translating Mediterranean wind patterns into moving constellations of fibre-optic stars. The subtle motion and arrangement of each starfield are interpreted by Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Collective, marrying artistry, science, and the romance of navigation by the stars.
The exteriors of the four Cullinans evoke their compass identities with distinctive colour palettes. North shimmers in Crystal over Light Blue, reflecting the high-latitude seas, while South’s deep Crystal over Arabian Blue IV evokes warmer waters. East’s Dark Silk Teal suggests mysterious deep waters, and West’s Sapphire Gunmetal captures the drama of a storm-lit horizon. A hand-painted compass motif adorns each front wing, highlighted in red to mark its directional point, complemented by Twin Coachlines in Phoenix Red and Arctic White. Fully polished 22-inch alloy wheels subtly reference the mirror-finished deck fittings of modern yachts.
Rolls-Royce’s relationship with yachting is woven into its design language. The signature ‘waft line’ draws inspiration from yacht hulls, creating a flowing sense of motion across the bodywork, just as the water moves beneath a vessel. From J-class racing yachts to contemporary Boat Tail commissions, maritime design has long influenced Rolls-Royce’s proportions, materials, and finishes. The Santa Maria, Charles Rolls’ family schooner-rigged steam yacht, symbolizes a personal link to this heritage. Logs reveal voyages from Shoreham to the Mediterranean, establishing a connection between the marque, the sea, and the destinations that remain beloved by clients today.
Cullinan Yachting is more than a collection of motor cars; it is a masterclass in Bespoke craftsmanship, a celebration of marine heritage, and an ode to adventure on both land and sea. Each detail, from hand-painted fascias to Starlight Headliners, speaks to a timeless dialogue between Rolls-Royce and the world of yachting, offering owners a driving experience as rich, fluid, and luxurious as the oceans themselves.
