The motorsport world is gearing up for an electrifying event as the Dacia Sandriders prepare to make their competitive debut at the 2024 Rallye du Maroc. The all-star driver lineup includes racing legends Nasser Al-Attiyah, Cristina Gutiérrez, and Sébastien Loeb, each paired with highly experienced co-drivers. This highly anticipated event, running from 6 to 11 October, also serves as the final round of the 2024 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship and a vital rehearsal for the famed Dakar Rally in January 2025.
The Ultimate Test Before Dakar
After months of testing the formidable Sandrider vehicle across the UK, France, and Morocco, the Dacia Sandriders are ready to put their hard-earned knowledge into action on one of the most challenging rally-raids. Often described as a “miniature Dakar,” the Rallye du Maroc will push both drivers and machines to their limits. Covering a total of 2,468 kilometers, with 1,512 kilometers set against the clock, the rally features treacherous sand dunes, punishing gravel stretches, and the unforgiving heat of the Moroccan desert. This race will offer a true test of endurance and skill for the newly formed team.
While the Dacia Sandriders are making their competitive debut, the team has a wealth of experience. Nasser Al-Attiyah, a five-time Dakar winner, secured a victory in the Rallye du Maroc in 2021, and his experience in the African rally-raid circuit will be invaluable as the team vies for success.
A Team United in Purpose
Team principal Tiphanie Isnard understands the significance of this moment. “In less than three months, we’ll be in Saudi Arabia for Dakar, which will be an extraordinary human challenge. But you can’t run before you can walk,” Isnard remarked. “We’ve entered the final round of the 2024 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship to get more practice and confirm everything we’ve been working on during testing.”
The Dacia Sandriders have undergone five test sessions, and while this marks their first official race, the team feels confident. Isnard praised the team’s dedication, saying, “The effort and hard work that has brought us here have been incredible. I’m truly proud of every member for what they have achieved.”

A New Adventure for Dacia’s Stars
For the drivers, the Rallye du Maroc is more than a race; it is a live rehearsal before embarking on Dakar’s grueling journey. Nasser Al-Attiyah, currently leading the World Rally-Raid Championship standings, is focused on maintaining a delicate balance of performance and caution. “We need to manage with a good speed and do nothing crazy because the Sandrider is a new car, and we must work day by day,” Al-Attiyah explained. “I hope to win the world title for myself and my co-driver Edouard.”
For Cristina Gutiérrez, this race marks her first in the Ultimate class, having previously competed in the Challenger category. “I’m excited but also feel a positive pressure to give my best,” said Gutiérrez. “It’s a new car, a new category, and a new team, but I already feel comfortable with the Dacia Sandriders.”
Sébastien Loeb, a racing icon in his own right, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the Rallye du Maroc offers a crucial opportunity to test the team’s readiness. “After all the hard work in testing, we can finally measure ourselves against the competition,” said Loeb. “If things aren’t perfect, we can address any issues before Dakar. But if we manage a good result, even better.”
Eyeing the Championship
While the Dacia Sandriders are focused on perfecting their setup for Dakar, there is another significant goal in sight. Nasser Al-Attiyah is in contention for his sixth FIA World Rally-Raid Championship title. Al-Attiyah and his co-driver Edouard Boulanger currently lead their respective championship standings, with a 25-point and 20-point advantage, respectively. A solid performance in Morocco could see Al-Attiyah and Boulanger secure the title, adding yet another accolade to their illustrious careers.
A Full-Scale Rehearsal
The Rallye du Maroc represents a pivotal moment for The Dacia Sandriders. It is a comprehensive test, not only of the Sandrider’s performance but also of the team’s cohesion and ability to handle the physical and mechanical demands of rally-raid racing. With a star-studded lineup, a purpose-built vehicle, and meticulous preparation, The Dacia Sandriders are poised to take on one of the toughest challenges in motorsport.
