With a blend of ambition and innovation, the team emerged victorious in this demanding FIA World Rally-Raid Championship event, setting a promising precedent as they prepare for the January showdown in Saudi Arabia.
A Dominant Performance
The event kicked off with Nasser Al-Attiyah and his co-driver, Edouard Boulanger, taking the lead right from the outset. They achieved a significant victory on the first stage, which propelled them forward and ultimately secured their status as the FIA World Rally-Raid champions for 2024. This marked Al-Attiyah’s third world championship title, bolstering his reputation as a dominant force in rallying, while this victory represented his seventh at the Rallye du Maroc.
Sébastien Loeb and his co-driver, Fabian Lurquin, also had a commendable outing. After navigating through challenges early in the rally, they delivered an exhilarating performance, finishing second overall. Starting the final day in fourth place, Loeb’s tenacity shone through as he charged forward, solidifying the team’s one-two finish and demonstrating the potential of the Dacia Sandrider in high-stakes competition.
Overcoming Challenges
The event was not without its hurdles. Cristina Gutiérrez and her co-driver, Pablo Moreno, faced several setbacks but displayed resilience, finishing seventh on Stage 5. Their determination underscored the team’s spirit and commitment to improvement as they head into their next major challenge.
The Dacia Sandriders finished the rally with an impressive three stage wins out of five, reflecting both exceptional performance and valuable insights gathered throughout the competition. Team principal Tiphanie Isnard expressed immense pride in her team’s effort, emphasizing that their success was a product of tireless dedication and collaboration among all members. “This was only our first event, a test event for the Dakar, so it’s a result we could not have expected,” Isnard stated, highlighting the need for continued preparation as the team gears up for the grueling Dakar Rally.
