GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 4 November 2025. Polestar is set to redefine in-car navigation once again as it becomes the first automotive OEM to integrate Google Maps’ new AI-driven live lane guidance directly into the 10.2-inch driver display of Polestar 4. The innovation, unlocked through over-the-air capability and Google built-in, introduces real-time lane visualisation that helps drivers navigate complex highways and unpredictable rush-hour flows with greater confidence and clarity.
A New Layer of Intelligence on the Driver Display
At the core of this feature is Google’s advanced AI, now working inside the vehicle to interpret real-world road cues in real time. Using one of Polestar 4’s forward-facing cameras, the system analyses lane markings, road signs and roadway geometry to determine precisely which lane the vehicle is in. The driver sees this understanding reflected immediately in a new lane-focused visualisation that maps out every lane available on the chosen route. In moments where a lane change is needed, the system provides clear visual and audio reminders to guide the manoeuvre.
For Polestar, this isn’t simply a convenient upgrade. It is another step in the brand’s ongoing commitment to a driver-centric UX strategy. By reducing guesswork and building clarity into the driving experience, the technology aims to cut out the stress of missed exits, last-second lane changes and confusing interchanges—common sources of driver frustration and safety risks.
Sid Odedra, Head of UI/UX at Polestar, underscores this direction. “Over the past five years, Polestar’s collaboration with Google has delivered many new features for Polestar owners. Live lane guidance continues the path of Polestar’s driver centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety by making missed exits and last-minute lane changes much less of a worry.”

A Future-Focused Upgrade Model
Polestar’s integration of Google Maps’ live lane guidance for highways reflects more than the adoption of a new navigation tool. It reinforces the brand’s philosophy of continuous, meaningful improvement through over-the-air updates—a commitment Polestar has aggressively pursued as its vehicles become increasingly software-defined.
The feature will begin rolling out over the coming months, initially reaching Polestar 4 owners in the United States and Sweden. From there, it is set to expand to more markets, more road types and a broader customer base as Google and Polestar continue refining the system.
This staged rollout mirrors Polestar’s broader vision: keep enhancing the ownership experience long after delivery, and treat each vehicle as a platform capable of evolving with new technologies, new partnerships and new expectations.
A Benchmark Moment for Navigation
For Google, this integration marks a pivotal advancement in how navigation intelligence intersects with vehicle systems. The ability to analyse real-world driving environments in real time and feed that understanding into the driver display represents an industry-shifting leap.
Andrew Foster, Director of Product Management for Google Maps, says: “Polestar has been a close partner since 2020 when Polestar 2 launched as the first car with Google built-in. Now, Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance which will help people drive with even more confidence and set a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry.”
As vehicles continue to merge software intelligence with automotive engineering, Polestar’s deployment of live lane guidance becomes a defining example of what this convergence can look like. It is not just about superior navigation; it is about enabling a calmer, clearer and more informed driving experience—one that evolves over time and keeps improving for every driver behind the wheel.
