McLaren Motorsport Strengthens Factory Driver Programme for 2026
After a landmark 2025 season, McLaren Motorsport is revving up for an even bigger 2026. The team has confirmed an expanded Factory Driver roster of 16 drivers, combining seasoned professionals and emerging talent across GT racing. This international lineup embodies McLaren’s racing DNA and underlines the brand’s commitment to excellence across GT3, GT4, and Trophy car programmes globally.
Marvin Kirchhöfer Leads Returning Stars
German driver Marvin Kirchhöfer heads the 2026 Factory Driver roster, joined by returning drivers Dean MacDonald, Benjamin Goethe, Arthur Rougier, and Simon Gachet. Each delivered strong performances last year, particularly in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance and Sprint Cup series, reinforcing McLaren’s dominance on the GT circuit.
Joseph Loake graduates to full Factory Driver status after an impressive GT debut in 2025. The 2023 Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year, Loake brings a single-seater pedigree from the FIA Formula 3 Championship to McLaren’s elite GT programme.
Streamlined Pathway for Rising Talent
The programme has evolved, merging the former Junior Pro and Graduate categories into the McLaren GT3 Junior Driver category. Ten drivers will now compete under this banner, guided by former Factory Driver and current Sporting Director Rob Bell. The junior roster blends returning talent—like DTM driver Ben Dörr, Josh Rattican, and 2023 McLaren Trophy Europe champion Tommy Pintos—with exciting new recruits, including 2025 Trophy champion Jayden Kelly.
New additions to the McLaren GT3 Junior roster include Louis Prette, a Garage 59 driver and GT World Challenge Endurance Cup race winner, alongside FIA WEC driver Tom Fleming, who balanced campaigns in GT World Challenge and the European Le Mans Series in 2025. Completing the expanded roster are James Kell, Mikey Porter, Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer, and Zak Meakin, each bringing a mix of GT4, GT3, and prototype experience to the programme.
McLaren Trophy Academy Expands Role
The McLaren Trophy Academy, introduced in 2025, has been enhanced to strengthen the development pathway from one-make series to Factory Driver status. This programme will provide comprehensive experience to professional and age-eligible drivers in the McLaren Trophy series, establishing a clear route to McLaren’s top-level GT racing. The full 2026 Trophy Academy lineup will be revealed in June.
Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport at McLaren Automotive, highlighted the depth of talent in the programme: “Marvin, Dean, Benji, Simon, Arthur, and Joseph are all top GT drivers, and it is a credit to our factory roster that we have them onboard. The eight GT3 Junior Driver members are promising talents coming from McLaren Trophies and GT4, and we will be keeping a close eye on their progress. The renewed McLaren Trophy Academy is targeting to become a reference GT driver development programme at a global level. 2026 is shaping up to be a very exciting season.”
Sporting Director Rob Bell added: “Once again, we have moved the McLaren Motorsport Factory Driver programme up a gear. With an expanded line-up and a clear development focus, the future looks very bright. With Marvin, Benji, and Tom racing in WEC this year, we can support a straight-line progression from McLaren Trophy to the peak of GT racing in the World Endurance Championship.”
With this expanded 16-driver roster, McLaren Motorsport is setting the stage for a year of fierce competition, international GT success, and a well-defined pathway for rising stars to reach the pinnacle of endurance racing.
