McLaren Motorsport has once again raised the bar in GT racing with the introduction of the new Artura Trophy EVO. Set to debut in the 2025 season of the McLaren Trophy championships, this evolution of the Artura series promises to deliver unprecedented levels of power, grip, and driver engagement, marking a significant milestone in the world of motorsport.
A Powerhouse on the Track
At the heart of the Artura Trophy EVO is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, now boasting an impressive 620PS thanks to the introduction of a ‘Push to Pass’ button. This feature not only adds a surge of power for overtaking maneuvers but also injects a new layer of strategy into the races, allowing drivers to time their power boosts for maximum impact. The result is a more dynamic and unpredictable racing experience, with faster lap times and thrilling competition.
Enhanced Grip and Stability
The Artura Trophy EVO is not just about raw power; it’s also designed to offer unparalleled control on the track. Wider tyres, now housed in expanded wheel arches, work in tandem with revised suspension and upgraded aerodynamics to provide superior mechanical grip. The front tyres have increased to 285 sections, while the rear tyres have grown to 315 sections, both improvements from the previous model. The enhanced grip ensures that the additional power is effectively translated into traction, giving drivers the confidence to push the car to its limits.
The aerodynamic enhancements are equally impressive, with a redesigned front bumper and bonnet outlet improving brake and engine cooling. Larger louvres in the front arches reduce lift, while prominent buttress scoops enhance rear brake cooling. These modifications not only contribute to the car’s aggressive new look but also ensure that it performs consistently under the extreme conditions of GT racing.
A Bespoke Racing Machine
The changes to the Artura Trophy EVO are so extensive that McLaren has opted to build new cars from production line models, creating a bespoke racing car tailored for the McLaren Trophy one-make championships. However, existing owners of the Artura GT4 or Artura Trophy cars are not left behind; they have the option to upgrade their vehicles to the full EVO specification, ensuring that all participants can benefit from the latest advancements in technology and performance.
Introducing the Pro Category and McLaren Trophy Academy
The 2025 season will also see the introduction of a new Pro category within the McLaren Trophy championships, designed to nurture the next generation of GT racing talent. Open to Silver solo drivers or Silver/Silver pairings, the Pro class is a stepping stone for those aiming for a professional racing career.
To further support these drivers, McLaren is launching the McLaren Trophy Academy, a development program that will run parallel to the championship. The Academy will provide young drivers with workshops focused on enhancing driving skills, understanding motorsport engineering, and honing media training. Additionally, all Silver class drivers aged 26 or under will be automatically enrolled in the Academy, providing them with a unique opportunity to fast-track their careers.
The most promising talents from the Pro category will be invited to participate in the McLaren Young Driver Shoot Out, with the winner earning a place in the prestigious McLaren Factory Driver program. This pathway not only provides a clear route to professional racing but also reinforces McLaren’s commitment to developing future champions.

A New Chapter in McLaren’s Racing Legacy
The Artura Trophy EVO’s debut coincides with the expansion of the McLaren Trophy championships to North America, running parallel to the established European series. This growth reflects McLaren’s increasing presence in international GT racing, with representation in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA. The success of drivers like Brendan Iribe, who transitioned from McLaren’s one-make championships to competing in the legendary Le Mans race, underscores the opportunities that the McLaren Trophy series offers to both amateur and professional racers.
Mick McDonagh, Director of MSO and Motorsport at McLaren Automotive, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season: “The team at McLaren Motorsport has created a stunning car in the new Artura Trophy EVO, which was designed to build upon our existing McLaren Trophy product following feedback from teams and drivers. It looks spectacular and with the introduction of the new Pro category and McLaren Trophy Academy, it will add even more excitement to the championships. The car has also been developed to inspire confidence in drivers of all abilities, which will result in thrilling racing action. With the new McLaren Trophy, America championship joining its existing European counterpart next year and McLaren returning to Le Mans, this is a very exciting time for us in GT racing and the opportunities for our drivers have never been better.”
As McLaren continues to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in motorsport, the Artura Trophy EVO stands as a testament to the brand’s unwavering commitment to excellence. With its blend of power, precision, and cutting-edge technology, the Artura Trophy EVO is poised to redefine the future of GT racing.
