Modena, Italy – November 6 — Maserati has written a new overture in its century-old symphony. With the production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio officially returning to the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant, the Trident brand has brought two of its most iconic nameplates back to their spiritual birthplace. To mark this profoundly symbolic homecoming, Maserati has launched Maserati Meccanica Lirica—a five-day celebration blending opera, engineering, and Modena’s enduring passion for mechanical artistry.
From November 5 to 9, the city becomes a living stage. Its streets echo with the unmistakable timbre of Maserati performance, while its theatres, markets, and historic squares pay tribute to a brand that has represented Modenese craftsmanship, ingenuity, and spirit for nearly 90 years.
A Homecoming in Harmony
The return of GranTurismo and GranCabrio production to Modena marks far more than an industrial shift. It is, as Maserati CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato describes, “a strategic and identity-driven choice”—one that reaffirms the city’s central role in the brand’s future while honouring its past. For Maserati, Modena is not merely the location of a factory; it is the heart of its culture, its design intelligence, and its mechanical soul.
This move also signals renewed investment in the Motor Valley and the skilled workforce that has shaped some of the most significant cars in Italian automotive history. From the 250 F to the Quattroporte, and from the MC20 to the new generation of electric Folgore models, Modena has long been the foundry where Maserati transforms vision into reality.
An Opera for the Ages: The Meccanica Lirica Soirée
The celebrations began in suitably dramatic fashion at the Teatro Comunale Modena Pavarotti-Freni, where the exclusive Maserati Meccanica Lirica soirée unfolded as a multisensory performance. In partnership with Sonus faber, the Italian maestro of high-fidelity audio, Maserati staged an immersive narrative merging the story of Turandot with that of the Trident.
Guests—ranging from employees to institutions, international media, and brand partners—were guided through shifting scenes of light, music, and choreography. The Modena Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Hirofumi Yoshida, brought Puccini’s most stirring arias to life, reaching an emotional crescendo during “Nessun dorma”. At the climactic words Il suo nome è Amore, the Maserati GranTurismo Meccanica Lirica One-Off emerged from the darkness.
A second transformation followed as composer Dardust fused classical motifs with a contemporary electronic edge, premiering the new video campaign dedicated to the GranTurismo and GranCabrio—shot entirely in Modena and celebrating the city’s deep bond with Maserati’s unmistakable sound.
The evening concluded with a gala dinner in the theatre foyer crafted by Michelin-starred chef Massimo Bottura, who, much like Maserati, remains a global ambassador of Modenese excellence.
A City Takes Centre Stage
Over the days that followed, Maserati’s celebrations expanded across Modena. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the rejuvenated Viale Ciro Menotti plant marked the production restart of GranTurismo and GranCabrio, while visitors explored the updated facilities and the One-Off models guided by the artisans who built them.
Modena itself transformed into an open-air tribute to the Trident. Billboards and installations bearing the message Modena, Città di Maserati appeared across the historic centre. The beloved Albinelli Market, the Portico del Collegio, and Via Emilia were adorned in Maserati’s visual language, while cars wearing commemorative liveries in Modena yellow and blue roamed the streets—each decorated with a musical staff where the Trident replaced the treble clef.
The weekend welcomed customers and Maserati Club Italia members for exclusive exhibitions, plant tours, and performances, including an appearance by Roberto Bolle, Étoile of Teatro alla Scala and Maserati’s new Brand Ambassador. The grand finale on November 9 brought a parade of classic and contemporary Maserati models, private visits to the Panini Museum, and track thrills at the Modena Autodromo with the MC20 and GT2 Stradale.
Two One-Off Masterpieces: GranTurismo & GranCabrio Meccanica Lirica
The centrepieces of the celebration are the GranTurismo Meccanica Lirica One-Off and GranCabrio Meccanica Lirica One-Off—bespoke creations fashioned within the Maserati Officine Fuoriserie.
Dressed in Rosso Velluto and Oro Lirico, the cars reinterpret the theatre’s velvet drapery, its gilt ornamentation, and its warm, timeless glow. Their 21-inch CRIO wheels feature diamond-cut accents in Pale Gold matte, while gold-finished Tridents redefine opulence without compromising the functionality of ADAS radar integration.
A reimagined Meccanica Lirica exhaust, with engineered valve calibration and newly sculpted tips, gives each One-Off a deeper, more resonant voice—a sonic signature aligned with Maserati’s performance DNA.
Inside, the cabins pair bespoke burgundy leather with Nude Alcantara, accented by gold-painted trims, Sonus faber details, and red-painted poplar wood inspired by the craftsmanship of Italian luthiers. Each model bears a “Creata a Modena” badge as a final, proud declaration of origin.
Introducing the Maserati Meccanica Lirica Pack
From these One-Off creations comes the Meccanica Lirica Pack—a new Fuoriserie personalization package available across the GranTurismo and GranCabrio range. Key elements include gold-toned Crio wheels, White Gold Matte exterior badging, bespoke exhaust tips, burgundy leather interiors, Nude Alcantara inserts with Campidoglio graphics, a black steering wheel and headliner, and the exclusive “Creata a Modena” insignia.
In Folgore models, the aesthetic language remains intact, even without the exhaust features inherent to combustion versions.
Officine Fuoriserie and Classiche: The Art of Personalisation and Preservation
With its newly expanded Officine Fuoriserie, Maserati has elevated the bespoke experience to an immersive journey—from digitally exploring configurations in a dedicated lounge to witnessing artisanal paint preparation and cutting-edge finishing inside the 4,000-square-metre paint facility. Capable of painting up to 24 vehicles per day, it stands as a future-proof hub of creativity and craftsmanship.
Alongside it, the Maserati Classiche program continues to safeguard heritage models with restoration services, authenticity certification, archival research, and the recreation of legacy components. Now integrated into the broader BOTTEGAFUORISERIE project alongside Alfa Romeo, the initiative fortifies Italy’s Motor Valley as a cradle of premium automotive culture.
GranTurismo and GranCabrio: Icons Reborn
First launched in 2007 and inspired by the postwar A6 1500, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio became defining modern Italian GTs, achieving over 40,000 global registrations across their previous generations. After production closed in 2019 with the GranTurismo Zeda, the nameplate was reinvented in 2022 and 2024 with cutting-edge architecture, a V6 Nettuno-powered Trofeo variant, and in the Folgore, Maserati’s first fully electric vehicle.
Their return to Modena brings the story full circle—combining high-performance engineering, long-distance comfort, and unmistakably Italian styling with a renewed connection to the city that shaped the Trident’s legacy.
Maserati Meccanica Lirica is more than a celebration. It is a testament to the harmony between craftsmanship and culture, power and beauty, mechanics and music. Above all, it is a homecoming—an affirmation that in Modena, the Trident not only rediscovers its voice, but composes a bold new score for the future.
