Pretoria, South Africa – 31 March 2026: Jaguar has taken a bold step into the future by first revisiting its past. Engineers began the development of the brand’s new luxury four-door GT by immersing themselves in the experience of driving iconic Jaguar models, including the XK120, E-type, XJS, XJ Coupé V12, and XJ Series I. This journey into heritage revealed the inherent DNA of Jaguar – a rare duality of engaging performance and composed comfort – which now defines the new all-electric GT.
Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director at JLR, explained that understanding what makes a Jaguar special meant getting behind the wheel of the marque’s greatest creations. “At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and comfort – in perfect harmony. Our new luxury GT is no different. Driving should be a joy, not a chore, as Sir William Lyons always said.” The experience confirmed that the essence of Jaguar lies in providing a visceral yet refined drive, and this has shaped every detail of the new model.
The new four-door GT carries the spirit of its predecessors. The XK120 demonstrated the importance of a cabin that envelops the driver in comfort while surpassing performance expectations. The E-type reinforced the need for a car that commands attention effortlessly, combining relaxation with accessible speed. The XJ Coupé V12 inspired the GT’s dynamic balance, delivering power on demand without compromising composure. Meanwhile, the XJS illustrated how a Jaguar can travel long distances with agility and confidence, and the XJ Series I embodied timeless appeal and refinement that remains central to the brand’s identity.
Beyond heritage, Jaguar engineers applied rigorous real-world and virtual testing to craft a truly unique electric GT. Intelligent torque vectoring and tri-motor technology deliver more than 735kW and 1,300Nm of torque, with software reacting in just one millisecond to ensure power is precisely where it’s needed. Dynamic air suspension and twin-valve active dampers guarantee a ride that is both exhilarating and composed, upholding Jaguar’s reputation for comfort without compromise.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director at Jaguar, said, “Our aim was to deliver a true Jaguar. By revisiting the provenance of the brand, we were guided in creating the most technically advanced Jaguar ever made.” With its long bonnet, low roofline, and unmistakable presence, the new four-door GT is a modern interpretation of Jaguar’s legacy. Its exuberant design, cutting-edge technology, and instinctive driving dynamics will set the tone for all future Jaguar models. The all-electric GT is set for its global reveal in September 2026, promising to redefine what a luxury performance car can be.
