GQEBERHA, South Africa — As Africa Month celebrations continue across the continent, ISUZU Motors South Africa has started shipping the first consignments of its new D-MAX from the company’s Gqeberha manufacturing plant to local dealerships, while preparations are underway to distribute the latest model to authorised dealers in more than 30 African markets.
Key export destinations include Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia, reinforcing South Africa’s growing role as a strategic automotive production and export hub for the African continent.
Built in South Africa specifically for Africa’s often demanding operating environments, the rollout of the new D-MAX highlights ISUZU’s long-term investment in mobility solutions tailored to the continent’s unique economic and infrastructure needs. From agriculture and mining to construction and logistics, the latest D-MAX has been engineered to support industries that depend on durability, reliability and consistent performance.
Manufactured at ISUZU’s Gqeberha facility, which serves as the company’s export hub for sub-Saharan Africa, the new D-MAX incorporates several features developed with African conditions in mind. These include a high-tensile steel load box, a reinforced tailgate featuring a unique centre hinge design and locally developed underbody stone protection intended to withstand rough terrain and challenging road surfaces.
The launch also forms part of ISUZU’s broader “Moving the World – for You” philosophy, which focuses on delivering dependable transport solutions that contribute to economic growth, trade and community development across Africa.
“Africa Month is an important moment for us to reflect on the partnerships we have built across the continent, and the role ISUZU continues to play in enabling economic activity and mobility,” said Mava Landu, Department Executive: Revenue Generation for Rest of Africa Markets at ISUZU Motors South Africa.
“The shipment of the new D-MAX to our dealer partners across Africa demonstrates our confidence in the continent’s future. Through our dealer network, we are delivering a product that combines safety, durability and reliability to support the businesses, entrepreneurs and communities that keep Africa moving,” added Lebo Rakgekola, Department Executive: Revenue Generation SACU.
Central to ISUZU’s African strategy is its extensive dealer network, which stretches from major urban centres to remote rural regions where dependable transport remains essential for businesses and communities alike. Supported by aftersales infrastructure, technical expertise and parts availability, the network plays a critical role in helping customers maintain productivity and minimise downtime.
For many operators across Africa, ISUZU’s reputation has been built over generations. Customers who first invested in the brand’s iconic KB-series pick-up models continue to rely on ISUZU products today through the latest D-MAX range, reflecting the company’s focus on long-term durability and trusted customer relationships.
ISUZU says its investment in Africa extends beyond vehicle exports alone. The company continues to expand parts distribution channels, technical training initiatives and regional assembly operations across various markets, contributing to skills development, employment opportunities and stronger regional supply chains.
The new D-MAX also arrives with enhanced safety technologies, improved towing capability and a driver-focused cabin aimed at supporting long-distance travel and demanding commercial applications. Whether transporting goods across borders, supporting infrastructure developments or delivering services to under-served communities, ISUZU believes the latest D-MAX is positioned to meet Africa’s evolving transport requirements.
As transport, logistics and infrastructure sectors continue to develop across the continent, the company says the new D-MAX has been designed to support the businesses, industries and communities helping drive Africa’s future forward.
