Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) has announced the appointment of Mr. Takashi Nishida as its new Chairman and Non-Executive Director, effective 1 April 2026, marking a strategic leadership transition for the organisation as it continues to strengthen its footprint in key African markets.
Mr. Nishida steps into the role following the retirement of Mr. Satoshi Yamaguchi, who concludes an exceptional 43-year career with Isuzu Motors Limited. Mr. Yamaguchi’s tenure included influential leadership positions, notably as Managing Executive Officer for the Light Commercial Vehicle Business and as Chairman of Isuzu Motors South Africa, where he played a central role in guiding the brand’s regional operations and long-term positioning.
With nearly three decades of experience within Isuzu, Mr. Nishida brings a deeply rooted understanding of the business, shaped by a career that began in Aftersales and Parts operations before transitioning into Overseas Sales. Over the past twenty years, his focus has increasingly centred on Africa, a region that has become a strategic priority for Isuzu’s global growth ambitions.
His international experience spans multiple key postings, including secondments to Isuzu Truck South Africa between 2007 and 2010, Isuzu Motors International Operations in Thailand, Isuzu Motors Sub-Saharan Africa from 2016 to 2017, and Isuzu Motors International in Dubai from 2017 to 2022. This broad global exposure has equipped him with a nuanced understanding of diverse markets and operational environments, with a particular emphasis on emerging economies and commercial vehicle demand dynamics.
In addition to his responsibilities as Chairman of IMSAf, Mr. Nishida will also serve as Vice President of the International Sales Division, International Parts Business, and Trade Management at Isuzu Motors Limited. His dual leadership roles are expected to reinforce alignment between Isuzu’s global strategy and its regional execution, particularly as the company continues to adapt to shifting mobility trends and evolving customer expectations across Africa.
Welcoming the appointment, Mr. Billy Tom, President of Isuzu Motors South Africa, expressed confidence in the new leadership direction, noting that Mr. Nishida’s experience and familiarity with the local market will be instrumental in driving the next phase of growth.
“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Nishida to this leadership role in South Africa,” said Mr. Tom. “His deep understanding of our market, combined with extensive international experience, will be instrumental as we continue to drive sustainable growth and further expand the IMSAf business.”
The leadership transition underscores Isuzu’s continued commitment to long-term stability, international collaboration, and sustained investment in the South African automotive landscape, as the company positions itself for its next chapter of growth and innovation.
