GQEBERHA – As the final production shift of the financial year concluded on 31 March 2026, Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) quietly etched a defining chapter into its manufacturing story. Not with fireworks or sudden spikes, but through something far more enduring: consistency.
Over the past year, the Eastern Cape facility delivered a 21% year-on-year increase in production volumes, assembling more than 27,400 ISUZU D-MAX bakkies alongside over 3,800 ISUZU Trucks. These figures reflect more than operational success; they signal a deep-rooted alignment between production capability and the evolving demands of customers across Africa.
This milestone did not emerge from a moment of acceleration, but from a steady, deliberate climb. It is the result of years spent building trust in a brand that has become synonymous with durability and dependability. That trust is further reinforced by Isuzu’s continued reign as South Africa’s leading medium- and heavy-commercial vehicle brand for the 13th consecutive year, a position earned through long-term value rather than short-term gains.
At the heart of this achievement lies a disciplined approach to growth. IMSAf has resisted the temptation to chase volume at the expense of quality, instead scaling production in step with real market demand. This measured expansion underscores a broader confidence not only in the brand itself, but in the future of automotive manufacturing within South Africa.
Dominic Rimmer, Executive Vice President for Manufacturing and Product Engineering at IMSAf, emphasised the human element behind the numbers. He noted that production records are not defined by machinery alone, but by the collective discipline of the workforce and the enduring loyalty of customers across the continent. Each vehicle produced represents a commitment fulfilled, reinforcing Isuzu’s role in supporting the industries and economies that rely on its products every day.
This philosophy is deeply embedded in Isuzu’s principle of Mutual Growth, where progress is shared across employees, partners and the communities it serves. It is a value that transforms production lines into ecosystems of collaboration, where every unit built contributes to a broader narrative of sustainable development.
As IMSAf looks to the road ahead, this milestone stands as both a benchmark and a promise. It reflects a manufacturing operation that has matured through careful stewardship, and a brand intent on continuing its journey of moving the world for those who keep it turning. In a landscape often defined by rapid change, Isuzu’s achievement offers a reminder that true momentum is built over time, one vehicle, one customer, and one commitment at a time.
