  • Impressive month for Ford Figo on 1 263 units, EcoSport leads compact SUV category

PRETORIA, South Africa, 2 December 2015 – Ford was the second-best selling brand in South Africa in November 2015, with the launch of 10 new or updated models this year giving Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) impressive sales impetus that is set to continue for the remainder of the year.

Despite the constrained market trends due to underlying economic and exchange rate pressures, Ford’s total November sales of 6 837 vehicles represented an increase of 2.7% compared to October, and a 12.3% year-to-date.

Ford achieved a market share of 14.6% for November 2015, while year-to-date, Ford has sold 72 134 vehicles this year, 7.9% more than the same period last year.

*The November 2015 sales figures, released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), show aggregate new vehicle sales at 51 256 units, an improvement of 201 units or 0.4% from the 51 055 vehicles sold in November last year.  Overall, out of the total reported Industry sales of 51 256 vehicles, an estimated 43 564 units or 85.0% represented dealer sales, 8.1% represented sales to the vehicle rental industry, 3.9% constituted sales to government and 3.0% to industry corporate fleets.

“The Ranger was once again our top performer up by 20.5% year-to-date with 2 608 sales, but as we’re in the process of running out the existing model and the New Ranger only started arriving on dealer floors during November, we expect this to pick up significantly in the months ahead,” says Gerhard Herselman, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa General Manager, Sales.

On the passenger car front, the Ford Figo recorded a massive 51.3% month-on-month increase to reach a total of 1 263 units in November. Of that volume, 1 217 were dealer sales, indicating strong demand for Ford’s impressive budget contender.

The EcoSport remains the leader in the compact SUV segment with 912 units sold with 54.3% year-to-date. Ford’s all-new Everest closed the month on 177 units, with demand continuing to outstrip supply for the sophisticated range-topping sports utility vehicle (SUV).

“We’ve had an exceptional year in terms of new model launches, and this is clearly bearing fruit, as evidenced by the recently launched Figo and Everest,” Herselman states. “As the New Ranger hits the market in greater volumes this will drive our sales up even further.

“And, as a special treat, we have introduced the amazing new Ford Mustang in December, just to put the cherry on the top of what has been an extremely busy but exciting year for Ford.”

*Includes Associated Motor Holdings (AMH) and Amalgamated Automobile Distributors (AAD).
