PRETORIA, South Africa, 06 November 2025 – Ford South Africa is sharpening the performance edge of its most popular nameplates, announcing a refreshed and more versatile powertrain line-up for the Ranger and Everest. Headlining the update is the introduction of the acclaimed 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, joining the range alongside an expanded 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel offering and an enhanced 2.0-litre turbo diesel, while the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo will be phased out.
These changes signal Ford’s commitment to evolving the Ranger and Everest portfolio, giving customers broader choice, stronger performance, and improved long-term durability as the brand looks ahead to the needs of tomorrow’s buyers.
A New Petrol Performer: 2.3-Litre EcoBoost Joins the Range
For the first time in South Africa, the robust and globally proven 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine will be available in the Ranger and Everest – an addition that significantly broadens the appeal of both models.
Tuned specifically for local conditions and customer expectations, the turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder introduces a more dynamic on-road character. With its lightweight aluminium block, integrated turbocharger, and advanced thermal management system, the engine produces an impressive 222 kW and 452 Nm.
This output translates into brisk acceleration and confident overtaking performance, while maintaining the refinement and smooth power delivery traditionally associated with Ford’s EcoBoost family. As expected, it will be paired with Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission, ensuring the broad spread of torque is always accessible.
Sunil Sewmohan, Director of Product Marketing at Ford South Africa, says the new powertrain marks an important step in meeting shifting customer expectations:
“Looking ahead, Ford is positioning itself for the future and meeting the demands of tomorrow’s customers. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine offers a distinct character, providing exhilarating acceleration, a more dynamic driving feel, and a smooth experience that will appeal to those who prioritise responsiveness.”
Diesel Line-Up Strengthened for Broader Appeal
Ford is also enhancing its diesel offerings to deliver greater durability, choice, and capability.
The 2.0-litre turbo diesel gains a new timing chain, improving long-term robustness and overall performance. This engine remains a cornerstone of the Ranger and Everest range thanks to its balance of affordability, efficiency, and proven real-world capability.
A notable addition is the rollout of the 10-speed automatic transmission to XL and XLT derivatives for the first time. With its updated calibration, the transmission offers smoother shifts and improved drivability across varied conditions – from urban commuting to towing and off-road use.
Meanwhile, the highly sought-after 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel, currently reserved for select high-spec variants, will soon be offered in a broader range of models. Details will be announced at a later stage, but the expansion reinforces Ford’s commitment to providing customers with more premium and performance-oriented options.
The 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel will be phased out as part of the revised strategy, allowing the range to align more closely with evolving customer demand and Ford’s global powertrain direction.
Arrival in 2026
Ford South Africa’s refreshed powertrain line-up is expected to roll out in the first half of 2026, giving prospective Ranger and Everest buyers more compelling choices across performance, efficiency, and capability.
With these updates, Ford is not only future-proofing two of its most important models but also reaffirming its dedication to South African customers – delivering meaningful upgrades where it matters most: power, durability, and driving enjoyment.
