PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – Ford Racing has pushed the envelope once again. The new Mustang Dark Horse SC emerges as the most advanced, powerful, and track-capable Mustang Dark Horse ever built, combining American muscle with race-bred technology honed at the world’s toughest circuits.
For enthusiasts and purists, this isn’t just another Mustang. It’s a statement: Ford Racing is taking lessons from the track and turning them into a road-going machine capable of challenging Europe’s elite sports cars.
Born from Racing DNA
From the outset, the Dark Horse SC was designed with a singular mission: to bridge the gap between the standard Dark Horse and the exclusive Mustang GTD. Drawing heavily on experience from Mustang GT3 competition and the performance technology developed for Mustang GTD, every aspect of the Dark Horse SC has been refined for speed, precision, and endurance.
“Since we introduced Dark Horse in ’22 and Mustang GTD in ’23, we’ve established Mustang as a performance brand that can take on the world’s best,” says Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing. “Mustang Dark Horse SC is the next chapter, drawing on lessons from Mustang GT3 and GTD. It demonstrates exactly how Ford Racing is bringing our race and road operations together.”
Chief Program Engineer Arie Groeneveld adds: “We tested the Dark Horse SC alongside the Mustang GTD and Mustang GT4 on some of the most challenging tracks globally, including Sebring and Virginia International Raceway. The result is a Mustang that benefits from every hard-won lesson at the top of the performance ladder.”
Heart-Pounding Performance
At the core of the Dark Horse SC lies a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for lightning-fast, precise shifts. The engine doesn’t just deliver straight-line power – it produces the iconic, spine-tingling soundtrack that Mustang enthusiasts crave, blending heritage and modern performance in one symphony of torque and horsepower.
But performance doesn’t stop there. Every Dark Horse SC comes with next-generation MagneRide dampers, revised springs, new stabilizer bars, updated knuckles, and forged suspension links to reduce weight and enhance steering feel. Rear suspension geometry and the steering rack have been upgraded for a flatter, more responsive ride, while optional Track Pack enhancements take cornering capability to near-supercar levels.
The Track Pack features custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires (305/30R20 front, 315/30R20 rear), Track Pack-specific MagneRide calibration, and adjustable traction control developed from Mustang GTD race experience. Drivers can select up to five levels of traction assistance or fully deactivate stability control, offering a driving experience tailored to both road and track.
Braking and Endurance
Brembo brakes are standard, with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers. Track Pack upgrades bring carbon-ceramic brakes from Mustang GTD, offering 16.5-inch front discs, reduced weight, improved thermal management, and enhanced driver confidence under extreme track conditions.
Track endurance was a priority for engineers, who focused on cooling and aerodynamics without compromising the Mustang’s iconic form. A new aluminum hood with large vents and standard hood pins improves powertrain cooling and generates 2.5 times more downforce than the standard Dark Horse hood vent when fully open. At the rear, a revised diffuser improves rear axle cooling, while the Track Pack adds a ducktail-style decklid and carbon-fiber wing for a combined 620 pounds of rear downforce at 180 mph.
Interior and Personalization
Inside, the Dark Horse SC adopts the Mustang GTD leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel with a 12 o’clock stripe, surrounded by Alcantara and carbon-fiber accents. The optional Track Pack includes Recaro sport seats, Space Gray or Teal interior accents, and rear storage in place of the back seats.
Personalization extends to exterior options with the Carbon Exterior Package, brake caliper colors, painted graphics, and cabin seat belt colors. Limited-run Track Pack Special Editions combine Track and Carbon packages with unique accents, black-painted roof, Race Red Brembo calipers, and GTD-derived 3D-printed titanium detailing – available exclusively in Shadow Black or Oxford White.
A Mustang Lineup Built on Competition
The Dark Horse SC completes a lineup that now offers Mustang RTR, GT Performance Package, Dark Horse, GTD, and Dark Horse SC. Each model delivers escalating levels of capability, ensuring Ford Mustang enthusiasts can find a machine that suits everything from spirited road driving to track domination.
Orders for the Mustang Dark Horse SC open in spring 2026, with deliveries slated for summer. While there are currently no plans to introduce the SC in South Africa, the global impact of this track-capable Mustang is unmistakable: Ford Racing has crafted an American supercar that can hold its own against the world’s finest.
Track capability depends on environmental conditions, track conditions, and driver inputs. Always consult the owner’s manual and drive within your and the vehicle’s limits.
