BYD, the world’s foremost manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, took centre stage at Auto Shanghai 2025 with a compelling showcase of innovation across its expanding portfolio of brands. From striking new vehicle concepts to advanced hybrid systems and intelligent luxury features, BYD underscored its ambition to lead the global charge towards electrified, intelligent mobility.
A Hybrid Horizon: The SEALION 6 and SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon
BYD’s credentials in hybrid and electric powertrains were on full display, with several global debuts illustrating the brand’s breadth in engineering and design. Chief among them were the all-new SEALION 6 DM-i and SEALION 6 EV, two mid-size SUVs that share a common silhouette but are powered by different electrified platforms.
The SEALION 6 DM-i, based on BYD’s Super DM hybrid system, brings plug-in performance and efficiency to families seeking lower running costs without sacrificing practicality. Alongside it, the SEALION 6 EV, riding on the next-gen e-Platform 3.0 Evo, caters to those committed to fully electric living. Both models span 4,810mm in length with a spacious 2,820mm wheelbase, and their refined “Ocean Aesthetics” styling ensures visual harmony, while subtle front-end variations nod to their different powertrains.
But it was the SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon that perhaps drew the most attention from driving purists and pragmatists alike. As BYD’s first estate vehicle, it marks a bold step into a segment often overshadowed by SUVs. With sleek aerodynamics, a classic long-roof design and the brand’s Dual Mode hybrid powertrain under the bonnet, the SEAL 6 DM-i Wagon delivers high fuel economy with impressive everyday usability. Measuring 4,850mm in length with a generous 2,790mm wheelbase, it reimagines the wagon as a premium yet accessible choice for electrified mobility.
Flagship Luxury: The Dynasty-D Concept
At the pinnacle of BYD’s showcase stood the Dynasty-D, a concept SUV that redefines full-size luxury with Chinese cultural motifs and state-of-the-art digital experiences. Measuring 5.3 metres in length, this majestic SUV boasts the industry’s longest continuous LED light bar (a staggering 2.4 metres) and a design language influenced by traditional Chinese artistry — including 3D Chinese-knot tail lights and brushstroke-inspired bodywork.
The interior, meanwhile, is a masterclass in blending heritage with high-tech. Bamboo inlays, gold leaf accents, and handcrafted paper textures meet eight interconnected screens in a digitally immersive cockpit. It’s a vehicle that embodies the spirit of modern China while setting a new benchmark for luxury SUVs.

DENZA Z Concept Sports Car: Peak Performance and Innovation
On the performance front, BYD’s premium sub-brand DENZA unveiled the Z Concept Sports Car — a striking statement of intent for the future of electric performance. The ‘Z’ stands for Zenith, and this vehicle certainly aims for the top with its sculpted aerodynamic form, adaptive rear wing and ultra-lightweight construction, including a full carbon-fibre dashboard and bucket seats.
Beneath the surface lies a groundbreaking drive-by-wire system — a world-first full suite encompassing steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire, and suspension-by-wire, enhanced by DENZA’s DiSus-M Magnetorheological Body Control System. This advanced suspension technology adapts in real time (within 10 milliseconds) to optimise comfort and control across varying terrain. For thrill-seekers and tech aficionados alike, the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car offers an exhilarating vision of what electric performance can become.
YANGWANG U8L: Luxury at Scale
Not to be outdone, BYD’s luxury marque YANGWANG introduced the U8L, a six-seat SUV that exudes opulence. With a 5,400mm length and a 3,250mm wheelbase, the U8L combines limousine-level space with cutting-edge capabilities, including the DiSus-P Intelligent Body Control System and e4 Platform architecture.
Designed for executives and high-end clientele, the U8L offers genuine three-row comfort in a sleek, two-tone package. Safety innovations from the original U8 return, including emergency flotation, tyre-blowout stability, and on-the-spot U-turn functionality — hallmarks of YANGWANG’s technologically advanced identity.
FANGCHENGBAO and the Drone-Driven Future
Finally, BYD’s off-road brand FANGCHENGBAO turned heads with an interactive demonstration of in-car drone integration. Displaying the full BAO line-up — including the new BAO 3 — the brand illustrated how next-generation vehicles could soon feature drone systems for terrain scanning, aerial photography or emergency deployment. It’s a glimpse into how BYD plans to differentiate its sub-brands through unique user experiences tailored to outdoor adventurers and off-grid explorers.
BYD’s Global Momentum Accelerates
Auto Shanghai 2025 proved more than just a showcase — it was a bold declaration of BYD’s readiness to lead the next era of mobility. By leveraging cutting-edge hybrid and EV powertrains, pioneering new segments with estate models, and infusing traditional design with digital modernity, BYD is not only expanding its reach — it’s reshaping the landscape of global automotive innovation.
Whether it’s through the elegant practicality of a plug-in wagon, the cultural expression of a luxury SUV, or the radical performance of a sports car that steers itself, BYD’s future looks as diverse as it is electrifying.
