The UK compact SUV market is about to get a distinctly electrified shake-up as BYD confirms pricing and specifications for its latest innovation, the BYD ATTO 2 DM-i. With on-the-road prices starting from £26,995 in Active trim, the model brings the brand’s Dual Mode Intelligent “Super Hybrid” technology into a more accessible price bracket than ever before, while expanding its footprint in one of Europe’s most competitive vehicle segments.
Positioned alongside the fully electric ATTO 2, the DM-i variant broadens choice for buyers who want electric driving flexibility without relying solely on charging infrastructure. It also continues BYD’s momentum following strong UK reception of models such as the SEAL U and SEALION 5, both of which helped normalise plug-in hybrid technology at increasingly attainable price points.
At its core, the ATTO 2 DM-i pairs a 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine with an electric motor and BYD Blade Battery system, working primarily as an electric-first drivetrain where the combustion engine acts as a generator under most conditions. This architecture enables a distinctly EV-like driving experience in daily use, while retaining long-distance flexibility when required. The Active version delivers 165PS with 300Nm of torque, achieving 0–62mph in 9.1 seconds, while the more powerful Boost trim increases output to 212PS, reducing the sprint to 7.5 seconds while maintaining the same torque figure.
Efficiency is where the system truly stretches its legs. Depending on specification, the ATTO 2 DM-i delivers WLTP electric-only driving ranges of up to 31 miles in Active form and up to 93 miles in Boost. When combining electric and petrol energy sources, total driving range extends dramatically, reaching up to 577 miles for Active and an impressive 621 miles for Boost, placing it firmly among the most range-capable vehicles in its class. Fuel consumption figures are correspondingly striking, reflecting the hybrid system’s ability to prioritise electric propulsion wherever possible.
The design language leans into a rugged, urban-SUV aesthetic, with compact proportions measuring 4,330mm in length and a notably spacious interior for the supermini SUV segment. Boot capacity reaches 425 litres with the seats up, expanding to 1,335 litres when folded, giving the vehicle practicality that competes with larger family hatchbacks despite its footprint.
Two trims define the range, with Active providing a strong entry point and Boost layering in a more premium experience. Active models come equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, rain-sensing wipers, a digital instrument display and a suite of parking assistance features including rear sensors and a rear-view camera. Boost enhances this with 17-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, privacy glass and upgraded parking assistance through front sensors and a 360-degree camera system. Cabin refinement is also elevated, with vegan leather upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, illuminated vanity mirrors and enhanced interior lighting for rear passengers.
Technology is a central pillar of the ATTO 2 DM-i experience, with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system fitted as standard across the range. Built-in Google Automotive Services transforms the interface into a fully connected digital environment, integrating Google Maps for navigation, Google Assistant for voice control, and access to apps via the Google Play Store. Alongside native Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, the system is designed to reduce friction between smartphone and vehicle, effectively turning the cabin into an extension of the driver’s digital life.
Charging capability and in-cabin convenience also scale with trim level. The Boost model introduces a higher-capacity 6.6kW AC charger compared to the Active’s 3.3kW unit, alongside 50W wireless smartphone charging and Vehicle-to-Load functionality, reinforcing the vehicle’s role as both transport and mobile energy source.
Dimensionally generous for its class, the ATTO 2 DM-i balances compact city usability with long-distance composure, offering a flexible alternative to both traditional combustion SUVs and fully electric rivals. With UK order books opening on 2 June and first deliveries scheduled for August, BYD is positioning the model as a key gateway into electrified mobility for mainstream buyers seeking efficiency without compromise.
