Volvo Cars is preparing to increase production of its fully electric EX60 SUV for 2026, driven by unprecedented demand in its home market of Sweden and other key European markets such as Germany. Barely a month after the public reveal, retail orders across Europe are already exceeding internal forecasts, with over 3,000 orders registered in Sweden alone. This surge is aided by Volvo’s new Care offer, which combines simplicity, transparency, and precision, along with three years of complimentary home charging.
The pace of EX60 order intake has already surpassed that of the EX30 small SUV, despite the latter being a high-volume, lower-priced model. What makes this early demand particularly remarkable is that order books are currently only open in Europe, with US orders expected to begin later this spring.
To accommodate this exceptional demand while maintaining its high-quality production standards, Volvo Cars is planning to increase output of the EX60 at its Torslanda plant in Sweden. Discussions with relevant labour unions are underway to keep the Torslanda facility open for an additional week during the summer, a first in the company’s history.
“That so many customers ordered the EX60 in the first month has surpassed our expectations, and it’s a good ‘problem’ to have,” said Erik Severinson, chief commercial officer at Volvo Cars. “We are very encouraged to see such strong demand for our game-changing electric SUV, and we are now reviewing our production plans for 2026, as we gear up for the start of customer car production next month.”
Revealed at the end of January to almost universal acclaim, the EX60 is positioned to be a game changer for Volvo Cars and its customers. The SUV delivers class-leading electric range, charges as quickly as a regular stop for coffee or fuel, and is priced competitively in line with Volvo’s best-selling XC60 plug-in hybrid. The EX60 is setting new benchmarks for convenience, performance, and value in the EV market.
