Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) recently recognised its best performing suppliers for 2012 at an event hosted by David Powels, VWSA Managing Director.

“As VWSA, we have been recognising our suppliers for past 20 years but this is the first time that the categories and criteria have been moulded on the Volkswagen Group selection format. The process recognises the best performing suppliers in the categories of Quality, Sustainability, Reliability and Optimisation.  The awards highlight the expertise of our suppliers and recognise their technical know-how in the various manufacturing fields,” said Powels.

Suppliers are rated by the key divisions they interact with at VWSA on a number of criteria including quality, competitiveness, schedule adherence and attitude. Only those who excel in all the criteria stand a chance of winning and the supplier with the highest overall score is declared the winner.

VWSA and its suppliers have both contributed over R1.7 billion in development of local parts content.

The winning suppliers were:

Category  Supplier
Continuous Optimisation Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies (Port Elizabeth & Cape Town)
Champion of the Region Principle Plastics (Port Elizabeth)
Quality TAKATA-Petri (Cape Town)
Sustainability Autoliv Southern Africa (Krugersdorp)
Reliability Kromberg and Schubert (Uitenhage)

For the first time, the best performing national suppliers selected by VWSA, will be submitted to participate in the 2013 Volkswagen Group Supplier Awards, which will be taking place in Germany later this year.
