Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) recently brought together its supplier network in Umhlanga for its Annual Business Meeting and Supplier Awards, a flagship gathering that combined strategic alignment, industry reflection and recognition of outstanding performance across the value chain.
The event served as both a celebration of partnership and a forward-looking platform, where TSAM officially introduced its 2026 theme, “Challenge and Innovate”. The theme will guide the organisation and its suppliers through the year ahead, reinforcing a shared commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence and forward-thinking collaboration in an automotive landscape defined by rapid change.
Attendees were addressed by Mr Ken Yamamoto, General Manager for Global Purchasing Engineering at Toyota Motor Corporation, who outlined the global supplier partner vision. He emphasised that Toyota’s pursuit of “ever better cars” is fundamentally dependent on strong, trust-based supplier relationships and a culture of shared values across its global network. His message underscored the importance of innovation, consistency and collaboration in maintaining competitiveness and delivering long-term value.
TSAM President and CEO Andrew Kirby provided a comprehensive business update, reflecting on the company’s 2025 performance and setting out priorities for 2026. He reinforced the critical role of suppliers in Toyota’s continued success, noting that the “Challenge and Innovate” theme is both a strategic direction and a collective responsibility.
“Our suppliers are integral to Toyota’s success,” Kirby said. “As we look ahead to 2026, Challenge and Innovate is both a call to action and a shared commitment. By working closely together and embracing new ways of thinking, we can continue to strengthen our competitiveness and deliver greater value to our customers.”
