Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) recently brought together its supplier network in Umhlanga for its Annual Business Meeting and Supplier Awards, a flagship gathering that combined strategic alignment, industry reflection and recognition of outstanding performance across the value chain.

The event served as both a celebration of partnership and a forward-looking platform, where TSAM officially introduced its 2026 theme, “Challenge and Innovate”. The theme will guide the organisation and its suppliers through the year ahead, reinforcing a shared commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence and forward-thinking collaboration in an automotive landscape defined by rapid change.

Attendees were addressed by Mr Ken Yamamoto, General Manager for Global Purchasing Engineering at Toyota Motor Corporation, who outlined the global supplier partner vision. He emphasised that Toyota’s pursuit of “ever better cars” is fundamentally dependent on strong, trust-based supplier relationships and a culture of shared values across its global network. His message underscored the importance of innovation, consistency and collaboration in maintaining competitiveness and delivering long-term value.

TSAM President and CEO Andrew Kirby provided a comprehensive business update, reflecting on the company’s 2025 performance and setting out priorities for 2026. He reinforced the critical role of suppliers in Toyota’s continued success, noting that the “Challenge and Innovate” theme is both a strategic direction and a collective responsibility.

“Our suppliers are integral to Toyota’s success,” Kirby said. “As we look ahead to 2026, Challenge and Innovate is both a call to action and a shared commitment. By working closely together and embracing new ways of thinking, we can continue to strengthen our competitiveness and deliver greater value to our customers.”

The highlight of the event was the Toyota Supplier Awards, which recognised exceptional performance across key areas including quality, delivery, cost competitiveness, innovation and sustainability. Operational Excellence recognition went to OP Mobility, while Smiths Manufacturing was honoured both for Sustainability and Customer Services – Parts. ROVD RSA received Operational Support Excellence, and MAXE was acknowledged for Customer Services in Conversions and Accessories. In logistics services, Tshepang Carriers and Rentals stood out for its performance.

Runner-up honours reflected strong competition across the sector, with Bay Tool & Die Makers and Feltex Automotive Trim recognised under Operational Excellence. Sustainability runners-up included Bay Tool & Die Makers and XTC Engineering, while Zee Bee Supply Chain Solutions was recognised for Transformation. Additional acknowledgements were made across operational support and customer services categories, with MOL ACE South Africa, MC Design & Contracting, Supreme Spring, Brink Towing Systems and Namlog among those recognised.

Achievement Awards further highlighted depth across the supplier base, with Antolin South Africa, Fischer Stainless Steel Tubing S.A and CRH Africa Automotive recognised for Operational Excellence. Sustainability achievements went to L&J Tool and Engineering Works, Engen Petroleum and KDG Logistics, while Sirius Manufacturing was honoured for Transformation excellence. Operational Support Excellence awards were presented to UNILEC SA, Andre’s Electrical and Grant Martie Builders.

A special moment of the ceremony was the President’s Award, presented to Mr Nick Beaumont and Mr Malcolm Anderson of Ramsay Engineering, recognising leadership excellence, long-standing partnership and a legacy of resilience and capability building.

In closing the event, Kirby extended his congratulations to all recipients, highlighting the broader significance of their achievements within Toyota’s ecosystem. “Their achievements reflect not only exceptional results but a shared belief in teamwork, trust and continuous improvement,” he said. “Our suppliers are an essential part of the Toyota family and we are proud to recognise the impact they make every day.”

As TSAM moves into 2026, the organisation’s focus is firmly set on deepening collaboration with suppliers, challenging conventional thinking and driving innovation that supports long-term sustainability and shared success across its value chain.
