Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is preparing to turn NAMPO Park in Bothaville into a landmark gathering of loyalty, legacy and sheer automotive scale as it sets its sights on multiple Guinness World Records™ attempts with the all-new 9th generation Toyota Hilux.
On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, the Southern Parking area near Gate 1 will transform into a vast display of Hilux heritage, as thousands of owners from across South Africa converge for what is expected to become one of the most visually striking motoring events the country has ever seen. More than a record attempt, it is a shared national moment where generations of Hilux vehicles line up in a unified celebration of endurance, community and engineering trust.
From rugged farm bakkies that have spent years on gravel roads to well-kept lifestyle Double Cabs and practical Single and Xtra Cabs, every version of the Hilux is welcome. Mileage is no barrier. The only requirements are roadworthiness and a genuine passion for the Hilux nameplate. With entry limited to two occupants per vehicle, participants are encouraged to arrive early to fully immerse themselves in the scale and atmosphere of the day.
At the centre of the event is a bold ambition to set multiple world records while celebrating the arrival of the next chapter in the Hilux story. But beyond the official attempts, TSAM is designing a full-day Toyota experience that extends far beyond the vehicles themselves.
A wide range of Toyota sub-brands will activate on site, including Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Toyota Insurance (TIMSA), each bringing interactive experiences that showcase the broader Toyota ecosystem. A dedicated merchandise store will feature gear from GR, Land Cruiser and Hilux collections, while Hino will highlight Toyota’s commercial mobility strength. Lexus will also be present, adding a premium layer to the event atmosphere.
Live entertainment, giveaways and spot prizes will run throughout the day, ensuring a constant sense of energy between record attempts. The overall experience is expected to feel less like a traditional automotive gathering and more like a festival built around movement, memory and machine.
For participants, the stakes go beyond pride. Every registered Hilux owner who attends and takes part in all world-record attempts will automatically be entered into a draw to win a yet-to-be-released next-generation Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab. The prize is further strengthened with 12 months of complimentary cover from Toyota Insurance (TIMSA), as well as R30 000 worth of accessories sponsored by TSAM.
The Hilux nameplate carries deep significance in South Africa’s automotive story. Since its introduction in 1969, it has become a symbol of reliability, resilience and everyday dependability. With approximately 1.2 million units sold locally and more than 23 million globally, it remains South Africa’s best-selling bakkie of all time and a trusted companion across generations.
As the next generation steps into this legacy, TSAM is inviting owners not just to witness history, but to help create it. Registration is available at www.hiluxworldrecord.co.za
, and early sign-up is strongly encouraged due to expected demand.
On the day, NAMPO Park will become more than a venue. It will become a living archive of Hilux stories, lined up in metal and memory, all contributing to a shared pursuit of something bigger than a record. A celebration of loyalty, capability and togetherness, measured in engines, tyres and time.
