SVI Engineering, South Africa’s premier specialist in armoured vehicles, has unveiled a new series of videos that leave no doubt about the sheer resilience of its latest creation: the SVI B6 Stopgun V2.0 armouring package for the Toyota Hilux.
The “Toughness” series comprises three high-impact videos, each showing a Hilux double-cab fitted with the Stopgun V2.0 kit enduring progressively punishing tests. From full ballistic onslaughts to riot-style attacks and a dramatic two-metre drop, the armoured Hilux emerges unscathed, demonstrating the unrivalled durability that South Africa’s security industry has come to rely on.
“A Toughness Beyond the Norm”
“Over eight generations and more than half a century, the Toyota Hilux has built up a legendary reputation as one of the toughest bakkies out there,” said Nicol Louw, SVI Business Development Director. “Fitting our B6 Stopgun V2.0 armouring kit pushes that toughness into an entirely new realm – and these videos make that crystal clear.”
Test 1: Extreme Ballistic Attack
The first video throws the Hilux into the fire with a full ballistic assault, featuring simultaneous rounds from 9 mm handguns, DM5 pistols, and AK47 rifles. SVI’s weapons specialists fired relentlessly at the armoured bakkie, targeting both body panels and glass.
Once the smoke cleared, inspection revealed zero penetration. “There’s a reason our Stopgun V2.0 kit is so trusted by South Africa’s security industry. In the field, it saves lives week in, week out,” Louw explained.
Test 2: Punishing Riot-Style Attack
Barely catching its breath after the ballistic assault, the Hilux faced a simulated riot attack. SVI’s team wielded an arsenal of tools commonly seen in civil unrest: rocks, hammers, crowbars, and even a pick-axe.
The Hilux’s armour held firm. Despite multiple impacts, attackers failed to breach the cabin. The Stopgun V2.0’s combination of integrated door armour and 38 mm flat armoured glass ensured the vehicle remained impenetrable.

Test 3: Dramatic Inverted Drop
The final test pushed the Hilux to its physical limits: a two-metre inverted drop onto solid concrete. Suspended by a crane and released roof-first, the bakkie’s roof and armoured steel structure absorbed the shock with minimal deformation. This test highlighted the vehicle’s robust roll-over protection, a feature confirmed in prior independent rollover assessments.
The Verdict: Toughest Hilux Yet?
“The SVI B6 Stopgun V2.0 Hilux endured every challenge we could throw at it,” Louw said. “Is it the toughest Hilux ever? We certainly believe so. Security companies running unarmoured bakkies are taking unnecessary risks. Stopgun V2.0 is cost-effective, field-proven, and now tested to the absolute max.”
