Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has introduced a series of thoughtful updates to its ever-popular Starlet and Starlet Cross ranges — reaffirming the brand’s commitment to safety, value, and everyday driving enjoyment.
The latest improvements see side and curtain airbags added as standard on Starlet Xi and Xs grades, as well as the Starlet Cross Xs, ensuring even more South African families enjoy the reassurance of enhanced protection. These additions complement the existing driver and passenger airbags, further strengthening occupant safety across the range. The range-topping Starlet Cross XR continues to feature the same comprehensive safety package as standard.
Added Value, Greater Peace of Mind
In another boost for customers, the Toyota Starlet now comes with an extended service plan — increasing from 45 000km to 60 000km. This enhancement delivers tangible value to owners, offering more coverage and helping reduce overall running costs. Combined with Toyota’s renowned reliability and nationwide dealer support, the Starlet ownership experience is now more rewarding than ever.
South Africa’s Favourite Hatchback Duo
Since its debut, the Toyota Starlet has become a cornerstone of the local hatchback market — celebrated for its blend of style, practicality, and dependability. Alongside its adventurous sibling, the Starlet Cross, the pair continues to resonate with South African motorists.
In the first eight months of 2025 alone, the duo achieved 15 238 sales, with the Starlet accounting for 8 691 units (averaging around 1 100 per month) and the Starlet Cross adding 6 547 units (approximately 820 per month). Their combined strength has been instrumental in supporting Toyota’s passenger vehicle success, contributing to 58 370 total passenger sales over the same period.
“With these specification updates, we’re not only expanding the safety features across more grades but also enhancing the Toyota ownership experience,” says Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager of Marketing Communications at TSAM.
“It’s our way of showing customers that we are committed to offering cars that are as safe as they are enjoyable to own and drive,” she adds.

Connected Ownership
Toyota continues to enhance the ownership journey through its MyToyota platform — a dedicated digital space designed to give customers seamless access to information and services related to their vehicle(s).
All new Toyota vehicles are fitted with a connected device, unlocking a world of features once owners opt in. These include in-car WiFi capability (with 25GB complimentary data) and a suite of connected services designed to make ownership smarter and more convenient.
Every Starlet and Starlet Cross also comes standard with a 4-service/60 000km service plan and a 3-year/100 000km warranty, ensuring complete peace of mind. Customers can further extend their coverage through Toyota’s comprehensive national dealer network of 220 outlets.
The Smarter Choice
By introducing broader safety coverage, extending value, and maintaining the same effortless appeal that has made the Starlet range a firm favourite, Toyota South Africa continues to set the benchmark for everyday motoring confidence.
With these latest updates, the Toyota Starlet and Starlet Cross stand stronger than ever — proving that safety, reliability, and driving enjoyment need not come at a premium.
