Mladá Boleslav, 15 July 2024 – The latest generations of the Škoda Kodiaq and Superb have achieved top ratings in the prestigious Euro NCAP crash safety tests. Both models secured the maximum five stars, reinforcing Škoda’s legacy of excellence in vehicle safety.
Outstanding Safety Scores
The Škoda Kodiaq garnered 89% for Adult Occupant protection and 83% for Child Occupant protection. Meanwhile, the Škoda Superb achieved an impressive 93% for Adult Occupant protection and 87% for Child Occupant protection, ranking it as the second-safest car in the 2024 Euro NCAP evaluations.
Johannes Neft, Škoda Auto Board Member for Technical Development, emphasized, “The safety of our customers and all other road users is our top priority. Therefore, we are delighted to receive five-star ratings for the second-generation Škoda Kodiaq and fourth-generation Škoda Superb in the Euro NCAP test. We are particularly proud of our strong results for Adult and Child Occupant protection. The fact that we have extended our successful record of five-star evaluations for our vehicles even after the more stringent test parameters were introduced in 2023 confirms our clear commitment to the highest safety standards.”
Comprehensive Safety Measures
Both models excelled under the rigorous 2023 criteria set by the independent European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The Kodiaq scored 84% of the total maximum points, with ratings of 82% for Vulnerable Road User protection and 78% for Safety Assist systems. The Superb achieved 87% of the total maximum points, with scores of 82% for Vulnerable Road User protection and 80% for Safety Assist systems.
Advanced Engineering and Design
The structural integrity of both models is enhanced by the use of hot-formed, high-strength steel components in critical areas such as the A and B-pillars, firewall, and tunnel console. In the event of a collision, the occupants are safeguarded by the robust bodywork, expansive crumple zones, and multiple airbags—up to ten in the Superb and nine in the Kodiaq, including a central airbag between the front seats.

State-of-the-Art Assistance Systems
Škoda’s commitment to safety is further evidenced by the inclusion of numerous advanced assistance systems. These systems alert drivers to potential collisions and actively help prevent or mitigate them. Key features include:
- Front Assist with predictive pedestrian and cyclist protection
- Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert
- Collision Avoidance Assist
- Turn Assist
- Crossroad Assist
- Exit Warning
Travel Assist aids drivers in longitudinal and lateral control of the vehicle, and it includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Adaptive Lane Assist with roadworks recognition. Other notable systems are Crew Protect Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist. The newly integrated nano radar sensors enhance the performance of systems like Front Assist and Crossroad Assist, while the Attention and Drowsiness Assist monitors driver fatigue and provides necessary warnings.
Euro NCAP: A Trusted Benchmark
Since its inception in 1997, the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has been a leading authority in vehicle safety evaluations. Headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, Euro NCAP collaborates with transport ministries, automobile clubs, insurance associations, and research institutes across eight European countries. The program conducts comprehensive crash tests and assesses both active and passive safety features of current vehicle models. Regular updates to the assessment criteria ensure that the program remains at the forefront of automotive safety.
