The Nissan Formula E Team experienced a challenging outing at the inaugural Madrid E-Prix during Round 6 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Fans packed the Circuito del Jarama to witness the action, but the weekend ended in frustration for the Japanese outfit, with neither Oliver Rowland nor Norman Nato able to secure points.
Qualifying presented a tricky scenario as the damp track tested both drivers’ skill and composure. Rowland impressed by reaching the Duels, ultimately earning an eighth-place start, while Nato advanced to the semi-finals and lined up on the second row in fourth. The pace was there, signaling potential for strong results, but the race proved unforgiving.
As the E-Prix began on a drying circuit, Rowland initially showcased a positive rhythm, only for a drive-through penalty for overpower at the start to derail his race. Despite maintaining competitive lap times, he fell back through the field and crossed the finish line in 16th position. Nato faced contact early in the race, losing several positions but fought his way into the points-paying pack. The Frenchman climbed to seventh before a technical issue curtailed his progress, leaving him 11th at the chequered flag.
Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E Team managing director and team principal, described the weekend as a “missed opportunity,” noting the strong performance in practice and qualifying. Volpe highlighted the need to investigate the technical issues that affected both drivers, emphasizing the team’s determination to address these before the next round in Berlin.
Rowland reflected on the challenges, citing the mixed weather and the drive-through penalty as pivotal moments that shaped his result. Despite this, he remained confident in the car’s pace and focused on resolving technical setbacks for the remainder of the season. Nato echoed this sentiment, praising the fan support and challenging conditions but stressing the frustration of not converting a strong starting position into points. He reaffirmed his commitment to staying focused and ready for when the team’s package aligns fully with race execution.
Looking ahead, Nissan Formula E Team shifts its attention to the Madrid Rookie Test, with rookie and simulator driver Abbi Pulling alongside Alpine Racing’s Victor Martins set to take on on-track sessions starting at 09:00 local time. The team aims to use the interlude to address technical issues and optimize performance for upcoming championship rounds, determined to transform potential into results.
