LONDON, United Kingdom – The 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship concluded in dramatic style this weekend as Nissan Formula E Team wrapped up a highly successful campaign with a determined, if testing, showing in London. Racing in a striking teal-blue livery to mark the launch of the new Nissan LEAF, the squad added one final points finish to its tally, capping off a season that delivered a Drivers’ World Championship title, multiple wins and podiums, and best-ever results in the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ standings.

Round 15 on Saturday saw Norman Nato deliver an impressive recovery drive. Starting 16th on the grid, the Frenchman executed a calculated and confident charge through the field, eventually crossing the line in ninth place. His seven-place gain underlined both driver skill and car performance, earning valuable points for the team. Meanwhile, newly crowned World Champion Oliver Rowland endured a more complicated outing. Starting from 12th, the Brit was hampered by contact during the race and narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish, coming home 11th – just over a second shy of the points.

Sunday’s season finale promised one final opportunity to fight for championship honours. Both Rowland and Nato narrowly missed out on the Duels in qualifying, starting side-by-side in ninth and 10th. Unfortunately, early-race contact sent Nato into the pits for repairs, yet the Frenchman rejoined with determination, working his way back to 11th by the chequered flag. In the #23 car, Rowland had a strong start and surged into the podium positions, looking poised to end the season with a flourish. But drama struck mid-race as an incident forced his premature retirement – a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise stellar campaign.

Despite the heartbreak of missing out on the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles, Nissan Formula E Team leaves Season 11 with its head held high. The team secured four victories, seven podiums and four pole positions over the course of the season – a testament to its growth, consistency and competitiveness. Rowland’s championship win, clinched with two rounds to spare in Berlin, was a defining moment for the Japanese marque, which took third place in both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships – its strongest performance since fully taking control of the outfit.

Reflecting on the season, Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, said:
“It’s of course disappointing to finish third in both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships after leading them for parts of the season. However, if we take a step back, we can be very proud with this amazing year. We’ve achieved seven podiums and four victories, secured the Drivers’ Championship with two races to go, and were in the fight until the very last race. We’ve matured together as a team, and everything we’ve learned this year will make us stronger next season.”

Oliver Rowland, who capped off a sensational season with his maiden Drivers’ title, added:
“We struggled a bit on Saturday and then had contact that stopped us from scoring points. On Sunday we were racing at the front again, but sadly my race ended early due to an incident. It’s a frustrating way to finish, but overall Season 11 has been incredible. Becoming World Champion is a dream come true – I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved, and excited to carry this momentum into next year.”

Teammate Norman Nato echoed the sentiment:
“I was pleased with Saturday – gaining seven positions and scoring points felt like we maximized everything. On Sunday, an unavoidable incident damaged the car early on and we had to fight from the back. It’s frustrating to just miss out on points, but I’m proud of how hard the team has worked all season. We’ve shown that we belong at the front, and we’ll come back even stronger.”

As the paddock enters its off-season, Nissan’s bold LEAF-inspired finale livery felt like more than a marketing move – it symbolised the team’s forward-thinking vision. With a World Champion in their ranks, a proven powertrain, and renewed focus, Nissan Formula E Team ends Season 11 not with regret, but with resolve.
