Kia has once again proven its prowess in the electric vehicle segment with the EV4, its first all-electric model produced in Europe. Designed to meet the needs of modern drivers, the EV4 balances electric efficiency with lifestyle versatility, offering two body styles and ranges of up to 388 miles on a single charge. This combination of freedom, functionality, and performance has earned the EV4 a spot among the seven finalists for the 2026 Car of the Year (COTY) award.
For Kia, this recognition represents more than a nomination—it marks the brand’s fifth consecutive year as a COTY finalist and the eighth shortlist in its history. Since the Kia Ceed first appeared on the COTY shortlist in 2008, Kia has steadily increased its influence in Europe’s automotive landscape. Notably, the EV6 won the award in 2022, followed by the Niro in 2023, the EV9 in 2024, and the EV3 achieving runner-up in 2025 with the highest points ever recorded by a Kia model. Such consistent recognition establishes Kia as a serious, long-term contender at Europe’s most prestigious automotive competition.
Designed and Built in Europe
The EV4 is manufactured at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), engineered to deliver efficiency and real-world usability for European drivers. The hatchback achieves a range of up to 388 miles, while the Fastback reaches 380 miles. Both body types feature ultra-low drag coefficients—0.261Cd for the hatchback and 0.23Cd for the Fastback—optimising aerodynamics and energy efficiency. With battery options of 58.3kWh and 81.4kWh, drivers can benefit from high-speed charging, replenishing 10-to-80% in around 30 minutes.
European engineers at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre (HMETC) fine-tuned the chassis to provide confident handling, precise cornering, and comfort for long-distance travel. Complementing this engineering excellence, Kia’s expanding charging network of over one million public points across Europe ensures convenient access for EV4 owners.

Technology and Design That Inspire
Inside the EV4, Kia continues its ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, delivering a driver-focused, intuitive cabin. Features such as the Kia App, Digital Key 2, and over-the-air software updates create a seamless, connected experience that blends practicality with sophistication. For enthusiasts seeking performance, the EV4 GT is scheduled for release in 2026, promising an even more dynamic electric driving experience.
Marc Hedrich, President and CEO of Kia Europe, emphasises the significance of the EV4’s recognition: “The EV4 follows in the footsteps of the EV6 and EV3, proving that Kia is not just participating, but competing seriously at the highest level in Europe. Designed, tuned, and produced in Europe for Europe, the EV4 demonstrates that high-quality, responsible electric mobility can be both inspiring and accessible.”
Setting New Benchmarks
Kia’s EV4 is not just another electric vehicle—it’s a statement of intent. It reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility, European engineering excellence, and lifestyle versatility. With its COTY 2026 nomination, the EV4 continues Kia’s remarkable streak in Europe, reaffirming the brand’s position as a forward-looking, competitive, and increasingly influential player in the continent’s EV market.
The winner of the 2026 Car of the Year will be announced at the Brussels Motor Show on 9 January 2026, where the EV4 will go head-to-head with six other finalists in a showcase of Europe’s most innovative automotive engineering.
