Johannesburg, 20 January 2026 – Hyundai Automotive South Africa has responded to recent media coverage following The Automobile Association of South Africa’s (AA) statement regarding the Hyundai Grand i10’s zero-star adult occupant safety rating under the Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP).
Hyundai SA emphasizes that the Grand i10 fully complies with all South African safety and homologation requirements as set by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS). To be approved for South African roads, vehicles must satisfy 53 distinct NRCS compliance requirements, covering areas such as braking performance, frontal impact protection, door latch integrity, child restraint anchorage systems, airbags, and other regulated safety features. The Grand i10 meets every one of these criteria.
“Safety is deeply embedded in Hyundai’s global and local product philosophy,” said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa. “The Hyundai Grand i10 has been engineered to meet all South African road and safety requirements, and the NRCS confirmation provides credible assurance to our customers and stakeholders that these standards have been independently verified.”
Anderson added, “While additional independent assessments and ratings, such as NCAP, are useful reference points, they continue to evolve and do not replace or override South Africa’s established regulatory standards.”
Hyundai Automotive South Africa remains actively engaged with regulators and industry bodies to ensure its vehicles meet the evolving safety needs of South African motorists. This includes close collaboration with Hyundai’s global original equipment manufacturer to continuously improve safety technologies across the range.
Hyundai SA reiterates its commitment to delivering safe and reliable vehicles. Customers seeking further information about the Hyundai Grand i10 or Hyundai’s safety technologies are encouraged to visit their nearest Hyundai dealership or www.hyundai.co.za.
