In a celebration of automotive artistry and mechanical mastery, Halcyon introduces The Great Eight Series, its first combustion-powered creation following the marque’s electric reinterpretation of the Rolls-Royce Corniche and Silver Shadow. This series embodies Halcyon’s atelier-led philosophy, blending meticulous hand-finished craftsmanship with modern engineering to elevate some of the most iconic British motor cars for a new era.
At the heart of The Great Eight Series lies the legendary 6.75-litre L-Series V8, an engine that has powered Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles for more than six decades. Known in its day for delivering what was described as “adequate” power, Halcyon has reimagined this venerable motor to enhance torque, responsiveness, and effortless composure. The result is a driving experience that honours its original character while delivering modern refinement and performance.
The series is unveiled through the Rose and Scroll design study, a remastered Rolls-Royce Corniche Fixed Head Coupe. Drawing on the elegance of the 1970s original, the design study reflects Halcyon’s commitment to bespoke artistry. Its Arboretum Green exterior and tan leather interior, accentuated with open-pore wood and green highlights, evoke the richness of the British landscape, while the Halcyon Gallery on the fascia celebrates Surrey craftsmanship with traditional engraving and damascene kingfisher inlays.
Each Great Eight Series commission is hand-built in Surrey, England, with a 5,000-hour process beginning from bare metal restoration. Advanced adaptive suspension, upgraded brakes, and subtle modern technologies ensure that while the cars retain their historic “waftability,” they also offer composure, confidence, and ease in every driving scenario. Limited to 60 one-of-one commissions, each car is crafted in close collaboration with its owner, transforming these remastered icons into singular expressions of automotive art.
Matthew Pearson, Halcyon’s CEO, emphasises that the Great Eight Series embodies a mechanical experience that complements the company’s electric offerings, preserving the essence of the L-Series V8 while refining its performance for today. Co-founder Charlie Metcalfe highlights the care taken to enhance smoothness, response, and overall composure without losing the engine’s authentic character. Meanwhile, Head of Design Patrick McCallion notes that the Rose and Scroll design language reflects Halcyon’s deep respect for heritage, craftsmanship, and client collaboration, producing designs destined for some of the most significant collections worldwide.
The Great Eight Series stands as a testament to Halcyon’s philosophy: to restore, re-engineer, and reimagine classic icons with passion, precision, and artistry, creating grand tourers that carry the legacy of British automotive excellence into the twenty-first century.
