Eindhoven/Baoding, October 15, 2025 — Great Wall Motor (GWM) has announced an ambitious new chapter for its European operations, unveiling a comprehensive regional growth strategy and a diverse product portfolio designed to establish the Chinese automotive giant as a major player across the continent.
After a period of reassessment prompted by shifting market dynamics and regulatory uncertainties, GWM’s latest announcement signals not only renewed confidence in its European ambitions but also a decisive, long-term commitment to invest in the region. The company’s objective is clear: to evolve from a niche newcomer into a mainstream volume brand across all major European markets, guided by lessons learned during its initial market entry phase.
A Broader Vision: “All Scenarios, All Powertrains”
At the core of GWM’s new European strategy lies a forward-looking product philosophy — “All scenarios, all powertrains.” Beginning in mid-2026, the automaker will roll out at least seven new models and derivatives, spanning multiple vehicle categories and propulsion systems.
Leading this charge will be the GWM HAVAL range, marking its full European debut following a successful introduction in the UK earlier this year. Drawing from a 35-year heritage as China’s foremost SUV and 4×4 manufacturer, HAVAL’s upcoming line-up will cater to an array of lifestyles — from urban commuters to adventurous families. Many models will feature the brand’s sophisticated Hybrid Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive system (Hi4), offering a balance between performance, capability, and efficiency.
Complementing the HAVAL range will be a new generation of GWM ORA urban compact passenger cars, bringing youthful design and urban practicality to European cities. Together, these two product pillars will allow GWM to cover a much broader customer base.
In line with European consumer expectations for flexibility and sustainability, the upcoming models will be available with a comprehensive suite of powertrains — from efficient internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) to long-range plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and fully electric battery vehicles (BEV). This diversified approach reflects GWM’s determination to meet customers where they are on their journey toward electrification, rather than enforcing a one-size-fits-all solution.

Expansion Momentum: New Markets, New Models, New Presence
GWM’s European expansion will accelerate significantly from mid-2026, coinciding with the launch of its new model wave. While current partnerships in markets such as the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Bulgaria will remain intact, the company is preparing a two-tier market entry strategy designed to balance scale with agility.
In major markets like Spain and Italy, GWM will establish wholly owned national sales companies, representing the brand’s first self-operated subsidiaries in Europe. This direct approach will enable tighter control over brand representation, pricing, and customer experience.
Meanwhile, in smaller or developing markets, GWM will continue to collaborate with independent importer companies, leveraging their local expertise and established dealer networks. Across all regions, the automaker will maintain its “trusted partner” model — working hand-in-hand with independent dealer groups who bring valuable local insight and longstanding community presence.
This partnership-driven structure embodies GWM’s philosophy of collaboration: building lasting relationships that prioritise mutual growth and sustainability.
Building Trust: GWM Europe Partner Day 2025
The strength of this cooperative ethos was on full display at the GWM Europe Partner Day 2025, held in late September at the company’s Global R&D Centre in Baoding. The event gathered over 100 potential distribution partners from 12 European markets, all eager to experience the brand’s technology, production capabilities, and long-term vision first-hand.
Participants toured GWM’s intelligent manufacturing facilities and state-of-the-art testing labs, before test-driving various models across multiple powertrain configurations. The event served as both a showcase of engineering excellence and a statement of intent — a clear demonstration of GWM’s readiness to compete on the world’s most demanding automotive stage.
“True cooperation must be built on transparency, understanding, and trust,” said Parker Shi, President of GWM International, addressing attendees. “That’s what we at GWM call long-termism — laying the foundation for a strong automotive brand and a sustainable business case for all partners in Europe.”
His message resonated widely. In a formal ceremony, the majority of attendees signed letters of intent, confirming their confidence in GWM’s European strategy and signalling their interest in joining the brand’s fast-growing partner network in 2026.
The Countdown to 2026
With renewed strategic clarity and a robust product roadmap, GWM is preparing for a decisive leap forward. The months ahead will see the conclusion of major partnership agreements, the establishment of regional subsidiaries, and the gradual unveiling of its next-generation models.
For GWM, this is more than a market expansion — it is the beginning of a sustained European presence built on innovation, partnership, and trust. As the company puts it, the countdown to mid-2026 has already begun, and with it, a new chapter for GWM in Europe.
