Chery has taken the automotive and tech industries by storm with its latest announcement at the CEO Conference: the launch of Mornine, a new AI-driven bipedal robot developed in collaboration with robotics specialist Aimoga. This pioneering venture marks a significant expansion in Chery’s product line, moving beyond automotive to advanced robotic solutions tailored for a variety of applications, including customer support and automotive industry operations.

The design of Mornine is remarkably human-like, leveraging a biomimetic approach to replicate human movement and appearance. The robot features a face crafted from a silicone material that emulates human facial muscles, enabling it to mimic expressions and mouth movements accurately. Combined with an advanced Large Language Model (LLM), Mornine is equipped to interact with people in an exceptionally natural and engaging manner.

Mornine is more than just a technological marvel; it represents a strategic broadening of Chery’s market reach. The robot is designed to function in roles as diverse as guiding visitors, facilitating sales, and managing reception tasks. Future iterations are expected to expand these capabilities to include personal caregiving and household assistance.

Chery has outlined a phased development strategy for Mornine. Initially, the robot will serve as an interactive information assistant, learning from its interactions to refine its understanding of human speech and behavior. The second phase will enhance its capabilities with advanced skills like visual recognition and autonomous navigation, allowing Mornine to perform more complex assistance tasks. In its final phase, the robot will become a comprehensive aide capable of managing caregiving tasks, household chores, and even educational responsibilities.

“With Mornine, we are not just launching a product; we are defining the future of humanoid robotics,” said Tony Liu, Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa. “Our robot draws inspiration from industry leaders like Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, and we aim to push the boundaries of what robots can do in everyday settings. We envision a future where our humanoid robots will alleviate the burdens of daily tasks for everyone, including those with physical limitations.”

The announcement was made in the presence of South African dealers and media representatives at both the CEO Conference and the Auto China show, highlighting Chery’s commitment to innovation and customer-oriented solutions.
