The Porsche Cayenne Coupé has become the latest model to receive SVI Engineering’s increasingly popular “SVI LITE” armouring package, extending the reach of this innovative solution to one of the most dynamic SUVs on the market. Designed as a cost-effective, partial ballistic upgrade, SVI LITE brings Level B2 protection to the Cayenne Coupé without compromising its performance character or everyday usability.
SVI Engineering – South Africa’s leading specialist manufacturer of armoured products – launched the SVI LITE concept earlier in 2025 as a new entry point beneath its B4 discreet and B6 discreet 360-degree packages. Initially introduced with the Toyota Corolla Cross and Ford Ranger, the solution quickly expanded to a variety of models, from the compact Suzuki Jimny to the luxurious Audi Q7. With the Cayenne Coupé now added, the product range reaches deeper into the premium performance segment.
A Partial Armour Solution Designed for Real-World Threats
SVI LITE focuses on anti-hijack protection rather than full ballistic coverage. For the Cayenne Coupé, this approach centres on the vehicle’s side closures – the doors and their windows – which are the most likely entry points during an attack. Customers can choose exactly how many doors to armour, tailoring the package to their needs and budget.
Each selected door receives meticulously engineered Kevlar panels concealed within the structure, paired with lightweight armoured glass that replaces the factory side windows. This combination delivers Level B2 protection, certified to stop 9 mm, 124-grain handgun rounds – a threat level highly relevant in South African urban environments.
Despite the significant security upgrade, the components add less than 15 kg per door. As a result, the Cayenne Coupé retains its performance edge across the range, whether in standard 260 kW guise, the 349 kW Cayenne S Coupé, the 368 kW GTS Coupé, the flagship 485 kW Turbo GT, or any of the e-hybrid models. The driving experience remains unmistakably Porsche.
Full Window Functionality Preserved
One of the biggest user benefits of SVI’s lightweight ballistic glass is that it allows the Cayenne Coupé to retain its standard window operation. This is a rarity in the armoured-vehicle space, where window movement is often restricted or eliminated to accommodate heavier multi-layer glass.
For owners, this means everyday interactions remain seamless. The driver still has unhindered access to parking-ticket machines, entry booms, security parks and biometric readers. Passengers can operate their windows normally as well, preserving the comfort and practicality expected from a premium SUV.
According to Nicol Louw, SVI Engineering’s Business Development Director, this usability is central to the appeal of SVI LITE. “In addition to its cost-effectiveness when compared to full 360-degree ballistic protection, one of the key drawcards of our lightweight SVI LITE partial armouring solution is the fact the vehicle’s general usability is virtually unaffected. In this case, that means the Cayenne Coupé remains very much a sportscar,” he said.
Cost-Effective Protection and Quick Turnaround
Compared with SVI’s full B4 discreet armouring – which starts at around R850,000 (excluding VAT) for a vehicle of similar size – SVI LITE offers a far more accessible alternative. For the Cayenne Coupé, pricing starts at R74,950 per closure (excluding VAT), allowing customers to scale protection based on their priorities.
The installation process is efficient, too. Regardless of the number of closures chosen, fitment at SVI’s facility in Bashewa, just outside Pretoria, is completed in two weeks, offering a rapid turnaround for clients who need enhanced protection without lengthy vehicle downtime.
