In a landmark achievement, BYD, the world’s largest New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, secured a double victory at the 2024 Best Cars of the Year Awards. The BYD SEAL and the soon-to-be-launched SEAL U DM-i were jointly awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Car Line-Up of the Year,’ a recognition that underscores their standout design, sustainability credentials, and competitive pricing.
The BYD SEAL, an all-electric marvel that debuted in November 2023, has rapidly garnered a slew of industry accolades. With the SEAL U DM-i—BYD’s first Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in the UK—set to make its market entrance later this summer, the company’s impressive momentum shows no signs of slowing. The SEAL starts from £45,695 OTR, while the SEAL U DM-i is priced from £33,205 OTR, making both models not only technologically advanced but also accessible.
BYD Named Best Company of the Year
Further solidifying its dominance, BYD also claimed the title of Best Company of the Year, outperforming global automotive giants with its ambitious expansion plans, particularly across Europe. This award highlights BYD’s rapid ascension as a key player in the automotive industry, driven by its innovative approach to manufacturing and a robust portfolio of NEVs.
Mike Rutherford, the founder of Best Cars of the Year and chairman of the judging panel, praised BYD for its relentless pursuit of excellence: “BYD is just about the most daringly ambitious manufacturer on the planet right now. Apart from building a new car every few seconds, it’s establishing a network of plants in Europe and elsewhere to complement its existing Chinese factories. I’ve never known a company so willing and able to take on and beat the world.”

Judges Praise the BYD SEAL and SEAL U DM-i
The accolades for BYD didn’t stop there. The international panel of judges, comprised of world-renowned car designers, engineers, auto industry leaders, and media professionals, were particularly impressed by the BYD SEAL and SEAL U DM-i. Peter Lyon, Best Cars of the Year’s Tokyo Bureau Chief, singled out the SEAL for its distinctive design and affordability: “I particularly like the sedan version, not least because—at last—here’s a cool-looking EV saloon that stands out from the ho-hum crowd. It’s a car that does not break the bank.”
As BYD continues to expand its footprint, particularly with the construction of new manufacturing plants in Europe, its influence in the automotive sector is set to grow even further. The company’s ability to deliver high-quality, affordable, and sustainable vehicles positions it as a formidable competitor in the global market.
