The latest Euro NCAP results have delivered a major accolade for BYD, awarding the SEAL 6 DM-i saloon and its estate counterpart, the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, a maximum five-star safety rating. It’s a milestone that reinforces the brand’s growing influence in Europe and strengthens the appeal of BYD’s Super Hybrid technology for family buyers seeking long-range efficiency without sacrificing protection.
Euro NCAP’s testing portfolio is widely recognised as the toughest independent assessment in the region. The SEAL 6 DM-i pair delivered standout results across all four evaluation pillars, signalling a well-rounded and thoroughly engineered safety package.
Strong protection for adults and children
The Super Hybrid saloon impressed early, securing 92% in Adult Occupant Protection. Euro NCAP awarded maximum points in both the side barrier test and the more demanding side pole impact, reflecting the model’s high structural stability and advanced restraint systems.
Child Occupant Protection was similarly strong at 90%. Once again, full marks were achieved in key areas, including the frontal offset and side barrier scenarios. These results indicate not just effective passive safety, but a cabin environment intentionally designed to prioritise young passengers.
Confidence for vulnerable road users and advanced driver-assist capability
Safety doesn’t stop at the cabin edge. For Vulnerable Road User protection, the SEAL 6 DM-i scored 84%, supported by sensors and systems that enhance detection and mitigate impact risks.
The driver-assistance category brought another high score at 85%. Euro NCAP singled out BYD’s homegrown assistance technologies, describing their performance as “excellent”. These features form part of an expanding suite designed to reduce fatigue, improve hazard anticipation and provide more consistent support in everyday driving conditions.
Safety meets long-range hybrid practicality
For Executive Vice President of BYD, Stella Li, the achievement is a natural outcome of the brand’s engineering philosophy: “It’s part of our DNA as a technology company to never compromise on safety. And the latest five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP is yet more proof of how this approach delivers excellent results for our customers.”
She added that buyers of the SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING can expect not only efficiency and practicality, but peace of mind. With a combined range of more than 1,500 km available on selected versions, the pair offers extended usability for commuting and long-haul travel alike.
Expanding a five-star family
The verdict marks the ninth maximum Euro NCAP score earned by BYD since entering the European passenger-car market in 2022. The Super Hybrid duo joins a growing list that includes the DOLPHIN SURF, DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL, SEAL U, SEAL U DM-i, TANG and SEALION 7.
This rapid accumulation of top-tier results underscores the speed at which BYD is scaling both its product range and its safety competencies in Europe.
Super Hybrid efficiency in saloon and estate form
Introduced to European dealerships in September, the SEAL 6 DM-i and SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING extend BYD’s next-generation DM technology into the saloon and estate segments. The SEAL 6 DM-i offers up to 65 miles of pure-electric driving and a combined range of up to 935 miles.
The Touring version adds compelling family practicality, with up to 1535 litres of luggage space and an EV-only range of up to 62 miles, while still delivering an overall range of up to 839 miles.
Both models feature hallmark BYD innovations such as Vehicle-to-Load functionality for powering external devices, NFC smartphone access and a choice of 12.8- or 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreens.
BYD’s freshest five-star success positions the SEAL 6 DM-i range as one of the most complete Super Hybrid offerings in Europe: efficient, technologically rich and now officially validated as a leader in safety.
