BYD’s Super DM (Dual Mode) Technology sets a new standard in eco-friendly driving by prioritizing electric power with minimal fuel reliance. This innovation enhances energy efficiency, reduces fuel consumption, and delivers impressive driving performance and comfort. The BYD SEAL U DM-i, BYD’s inaugural vehicle in Europe featuring Super DM Technology, offers pure electric ranges from 43 to 78 miles, depending on the trim level.
The SEAL U DM-i Design version boasts a four-wheel-drive configuration with two high-power electric motors (front and rear) and an 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery. This setup is complemented by a 1.5T hybrid engine developed in-house, ensuring adaptability to various driving conditions. Front-wheel-drive versions, Boost and Comfort, come equipped with a 1.5L hybrid engine and either an 18.3 kWh (Boost) or 26.6 kWh (Comfort) BYD Blade Battery.
BYD, the global leader in New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), introduces the SEAL U DM-i, its first Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Europe equipped with Super DM Technology. The SEAL U DM-i is designed to be an efficient, practical, and eco-conscious solution for both daily commutes and long journeys. This D-segment family SUV will be available this summer for European customers who prioritize environmental friendliness without sacrificing range, practicality, or affordability.
The BYD SEAL U DM-i exemplifies the advantages of electric driving: it is fast, powerful, and efficient. This impressive performance is made possible by BYD’s Super DM Technology, a revolutionary development in intelligent PHEV technology. This exclusive BYD innovation offers numerous benefits, including superior energy efficiency, low fuel consumption, and enhanced driving performance and comfort. For the SEAL U DM-i, the “i” symbolizes intelligence, encapsulating the principles of smart and energy-efficient driving.
The Super DM Technology prioritizes electric power with minimal fuel use, enhancing environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, and fuel economy. When fully charged and in EV mode, the vehicle operates as a pure electric vehicle. When the State of Charge (SOC) is low, it transitions to an ultra-low fuel consumption hybrid, alleviating range anxiety. This system offers a quiet, comfortable ride with exhilarating high-power performance and responsiveness, redefining the driving experience.

Trim Levels and Performance
The BYD SEAL U DM-i is available in three trims: Design, Comfort, and Boost, catering to European customers who value environmental sustainability without compromising on range, practicality, or affordability.
Design Trim
Features two high-power electric motors (150 kW front and 120 kW rear) and an 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery. It is complemented by a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 96 kW, resulting in a total system power of 238 kW and a total torque of 550 Nm. This version has a four-wheel-drive configuration.
Boost and Comfort Trims
These trims come with a front-wheel-drive 1.5L hybrid engine producing 72 kW, paired with a 145 kW high-power electric motor. The Boost version has an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, while the Comfort trim boasts a larger 26.6 kWh Blade Battery, providing a pure electric range of 78 miles. Both trims have a total system power of 160 kW and a maximum torque of 300 Nm.
Driving Modes
The SEAL U DM-i offers two driving modes: EV and HEV. In EV mode, the driver can select ‘EV only mode’ for smooth daily commuting or city driving, primarily using battery power. In HEV mode, the vehicle uses battery power predominantly, with the petrol engine providing additional power during acceleration. This seamless transition between modes ensures a pure electric driving experience. Additionally, the engine charges the battery to maintain electric driving capability, and the battery is also recharged through regenerative braking technology.
Efficiency and Range
The BYD DM-i super hybrid structure emphasizes ultra-low fuel consumption, delivering a quiet, smooth driving experience with excellent power output. The vehicle achieves an impressive fuel consumption of 313.8 mpg for Boost and 235.4 mpg for Design WLTP (weighted combined). The electric combined consumption for Boost is 21 kWh/km, and for Design, it is 23.5 kWh/km. During city driving, the electric consumption is 14.5 kWh/100 km for Boost and 16.1 kWh/100 km for Design.
The SEAL U DM-i offers significant range
The Design version provides a full electric driving range of 43 miles (WLTP) and a total range of 540 miles (WLTP). The Boost version offers 50 miles of pure electric range and a total range of 671 miles (WLTP). The Comfort trim, available after summer, features a 26.6 kWh Blade Battery with a pure electric range of 78 miles and a total range exceeding 684 miles (WLTP).
Battery and Charging
All BYD SEAL U DM-i trims come with the BYD Blade Battery, known for its safety, durability, longevity, performance, and space efficiency. The battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) for enhanced safety and thermal stability. The Blade Battery exceeds rigorous safety standards, including the Nail Penetration Test. The SEAL U DM-i supports 11 kW 3-phase AC charging and 18 kW DC charging, allowing for a quick DC charging time (30-80 percent) of only 35 minutes.
Design and Interior
The SEAL U DM-i features an attractive design with an X-shaped front, U-shaped headlights, and a balanced body profile. The interior exudes a premium feel with modern design, soft-touch surfaces, and high-quality finishes. Vegan leather upholstery, a crystal gearshift knob, large digital screens, and a panoramic sunroof enhance comfort and convenience.
Practicality and Safety
The SEAL U DM-i is a spacious family SUV with a length of 4,775 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a height of 1,670 mm. It offers ample legroom, a quiet cabin, and flexible cargo space (425 to 1,440 liters). The vehicle includes multiple storage compartments, USB ports, wireless charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.
