Munich – The BMW Group has once again positioned itself at the cutting edge of automotive innovation with the public unveiling of the BMW iX3, the inaugural model of its groundbreaking Neue Klasse family, at the prestigious IAA Mobility 2025. Hosted in BMW’s home city of Munich, the event is not only a showcase for this landmark electric SUV but also a comprehensive preview of revolutionary technologies set to define the brand’s future.
A Citywide Celebration of Innovation and Design
The 2025 IAA Mobility event spreads across two primary venues: the traditional Messe München exhibition centre and the vibrant BMW Open Space in Max-Joseph-Platz, located in the heart of Munich under the iconic opera house. The Open Space, a generous 3,000 m² area open free to the public, offers visitors a hands-on encounter with the new BMW iX3 alongside a rich lineup of electrified BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad models. Meanwhile, BMW Welt and the BMW Museum add their distinctive contributions, enriching the city’s automotive tapestry with exhibitions and interactive experiences.
Neue Klasse: BMW’s Next Generation Begins with the iX3
The Neue Klasse is much more than a new model—it heralds a new era for BMW. At the centre of this transformation is the BMW iX3, showcasing a suite of innovations that mark a leap forward in electric mobility, digitalisation, connectivity, design, sustainability, and user interface technology. Visitors will experience BMW Panoramic Vision, featuring the entirely in-house developed BMW Operating System X, which promises to redefine driver interaction with seamless, intuitive controls and expansive displays.
The iX3 is not only a vehicle but a statement of BMW’s commitment to future-proof technology. Innovations debuting on this model will cascade through the entire BMW range, irrespective of powertrain, signifying a holistic advancement for the brand.
BMW Charging and Bidirectional Power Innovation
A highlight of the Open Space is the dedicated BMW Charging zone, where experts showcase the latest in public and home charging solutions, including the newly introduced bidirectional charging capability of the BMW iX3. This technology empowers drivers to use their vehicle’s battery to supply electricity back to their homes (Vehicle-to-Home) or the public grid (Vehicle-to-Grid), enhancing energy flexibility and sustainability.
Diverse Lineup from BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad
Alongside the iX3, the Open Space features a dynamic array of BMW’s electrified vehicles—such as the BMW i4, i5, i7, and iX—plus plug-in hybrid variants like the BMW X3 30e xDrive and the BMW M5 Touring. BMW Motorrad presents its vision for urban electric mobility with the BMW CE 02 and CE 04 scooters, as well as the futuristic BMW Vision CE, offering a glimpse into the future of electric two-wheelers designed for city life.
MINI’s presence is equally compelling, with two eye-catching John Cooper Works (JCW) show cars making their world premieres at the IAA. These cars will be exhibited at the MINI Pavillon on Lenbachplatz, spotlighting MINI’s rich motorsport heritage and its ongoing success, including recent achievements at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. The MINI presence is enhanced by a collaboration with the lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina, emphasizing British flair and racing spirit.
Family-Friendly Entertainment and Interactive Exhibits
The Open Space extends a warm invitation to families with a dedicated area featuring creative and engaging activities, including LEGO building zones, a Disney+ Dance Challenge, crafts, and water stations. These elements ensure a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere where visitors of all ages can enjoy the IAA experience.

BMW Welt’s New High-Performance Charging Hub
From 6 September, BMW Welt in northern Munich will also spotlight the BMW iX3 alongside innovations like BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Charging services. Complementing this, a new high-power charging hub with eight stations will open outside BMW Welt during IAA Mobility, designed by BMW’s innovation studio Designworks to blend seamlessly with the iconic architecture. Visitors charging their vehicles will be treated to expert talks and personalized tours, enriching the charging experience.
BMW Museum’s Digital Innovation: The DigiTour
The BMW Museum embraces digital innovation with the launch of the BMW Museum DigiTour, an interactive, web-based app bringing the brand’s history and heritage to life. Accessible worldwide without download, this digital tour showcases classic BMW models, including a forthcoming exhibition on Italian automotive design at BMW, alongside family-friendly content and rare archival insights.
Sustainability at the Forefront
Sustainability remains a core pillar of BMW’s strategy at IAA Mobility 2025. The Neue Klasse project embodies the company’s holistic approach to reducing carbon emissions across every phase of a vehicle’s life cycle—from development and raw material sourcing to production, usage, and recycling. Reflecting this ethos, around 80 percent of the Open Space’s installations and materials are either reused from past events or procured for long-term use, underscoring BMW’s commitment to circular economy principles.
A Nod to Heritage: The 1961 BMW 1500 Neue Klasse
As a symbolic full circle, BMW Classic will display the legendary BMW 1500 from 1961—the original Neue Klasse model that launched BMW’s ascendancy as a global premium brand. Positioned alongside the futuristic iX3, it highlights the brand’s rich heritage while charting the path forward.
The BMW iX3’s debut at IAA Mobility 2025 marks a pivotal moment not just for BMW but for the automotive industry’s evolution toward electrification, sustainability, and digital excellence. This event in Munich offers visitors and trade professionals alike a comprehensive glimpse into the future of mobility, framed by BMW’s distinctive blend of innovation, design, and heritage.
