Five iconic BMW Art Cars will take centre stage at the 2025 Goodwood Revival, part of the collection’s worldwide tour marking its 50th anniversary. Among the highlights is David Hockney’s 1995 BMW 850 CSi, a piece celebrated for its intricate detailing and artistic depth. The event runs from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September, with limited tickets still available at goodwood.com.
Since its inception, the BMW Art Car collection has grown to feature 20 one-of-a-kind vehicles adorned by some of the world’s most renowned artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and David Hockney. The concept originated with French racing driver Hervé Poulain, who combined his passion for motorsport with a love for contemporary art, producing vehicles that are as visually striking as they are powerful.

To commemorate five decades of innovation, BMW is presenting the following five Art Cars at Goodwood:
- 1976 Frank Stella BMW 3.0 CSL
Originally raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Stella’s reinterpretation of the 3.0 CSL incorporates bold black and white lines that echo the car’s engineering, placing its 750 hp engine at the forefront of the artistic composition. - 1977 Roy Lichtenstein BMW 320i Turbo
The second Le Mans competitor in the series, Lichtenstein applied his signature “Ben Day dots” to the 320i Turbo, blending pop art with high-performance motorsport. The car was driven by Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot during its racing career. - 1982 Ernst Fuchs BMW 635 CSi
Known as the “Fire Fox on a Hare Hunt,” Fuchs’ design was the first in the series based on a production car, combining fantastical imagery with a nod to automotive engineering. - 1995 David Hockney BMW 850 CSi
Hockney’s 850 CSi reveals the car’s inner mechanics and spirit through meticulously detailed paintwork, including the subtle outline of a driver on the door and a stylised suction vent on the bonnet—inviting viewers to discover hidden layers within the design. - 2010 Jeff Koons BMW M3 GT2
Koons’ Art Car reintroduces Pop Art to the collection with vibrant, contrasting colours, capturing the essence of speed and energy even when the vehicle is at rest.
Throughout the Goodwood Revival weekend, these extraordinary vehicles will be displayed in Earls Court, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience five decades of artistic innovation in automotive design. Saturday tickets have sold out, with limited availability remaining for Friday and Sunday at goodwood.com.
