Johannesburg, November 2024 — In a powerful demonstration of precision engineering and philanthropy, Audi South Africa auctioned the continent’s only Audi RS 6 Avant GT in Cape Town, raising R4.5 million in a vibrant bidding war. This special vehicle, marked as number 74 of the 660 GT units crafted worldwide, represents a rare piece of Audi’s performance history. A portion of the proceeds will be dedicated to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science, and Technology, a non-profit organisation advancing STEM education in underserved South African communities.
A Milestone Model with Heritage and Vision
The Audi RS 6 Avant GT is not just another luxury vehicle; it’s the pinnacle of Audi’s commitment to innovation, power, and the family-oriented supercar experience. Designed as a final edition of the RS 6 Avant, this GT variant integrates two decades of engineering expertise and pays homage to Audi’s illustrious racing past, with styling elements inspired by the 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO.
“The RS 6 Avant GT is an iconic vehicle that embodies the soul of Audi,” noted Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. “This car showcases meticulous craftsmanship and a design inspired by rich heritage, telling a story of passion and excellence that spans generations.”

Driving Social Change Through STEM Education
This auction was notable not only for the automobile but also for the impact it will have on local youth. A significant portion of the sale proceeds will benefit the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science, and Technology, an organisation that has been transforming lives since 2005. Kutlwanong empowers township and rural youth to pursue careers in critical STEM fields such as engineering, technology, and physical sciences.
In its 19-year journey, Kutlwanong has helped over 40,000 township students achieve high grades in mathematics and science, setting a solid foundation for university admission and careers in high-demand industries. It has also enabled 12,000 high school students to attain distinctions in these subjects, preparing them to thrive in STEM careers and contribute meaningfully to the South African economy.
“Audi’s support for Kutlwanong aligns perfectly with our commitment to progress and our vision for the future,” added Sauer. “By investing in the next generation of scientists and engineers, we continue Audi’s legacy of innovation and help ensure that South Africa’s youth are equipped for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
Tumelo Mabitsela, CEO of Kutlwanong, expressed deep gratitude for the support: “This extraordinary donation from Audi South Africa will help us extend our reach and provide more students with opportunities to explore STEM fields. By investing in our youth, we’re shaping a future where South Africa’s young people can lead in a rapidly evolving global economy.”
A Night to Remember in Automotive and Philanthropic Circles
The auction was as much a social event as it was a moment of celebration for automotive enthusiasts. The evening offered attendees a chance to connect with a rare piece of automotive history while contributing to a cause that will have a lasting impact on South Africa’s future.
The sale of the final RS 6 Avant GT in Africa symbolises the end of an era, yet it marks the beginning of new opportunities for South Africa’s youth. Through this event, Audi South Africa has reinforced its commitment to driving change and progress, both on the road and within communities.
